Hello, friends, how have you been? Today I wanted to share with you a wonderful experience, a research project that turned into art and a lot of learning. First of all, I want to show you this beautiful mural that represents the protagonist of this research. It is about a little frog called the orange Harlequin (Atelopus sorianoi) that is only found in the Mérida State, Venezuela, Sucre municipality.

I actually never knew of its existence until some biologists came to my community, El Hato de Estanques. They are part of an organization called the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research (IVIC) and expressed that they had knowledge that this little frog existed in past years in our community, so they wanted to carry out a research project together with the high school students and the inhabitants of the community, especially with our grandparents, who had come to know this little frog and learn a bit more about this species. The objective was clear: to discover, thanks to their experience, if it could still be found.

The research project is called "In Search of the Orange Harlequin to Save Our Ecosystem."

For me, it was a new experience where I learned many things, both about nature and our ecosystem and the importance of rescuing the different species in danger of extinction, as well as those that were part of our ancestors. We had a lot of fun listening to the stories and anecdotes that our grandparents from the community told us about the little orange frog.

After conducting interviews with the inhabitants of the community, we carried out tours in the mountains and surroundings of the town in search of the harlequin frog, but unfortunately, we did not find it. No one has seen it again for approximately three years; we do not know if it still exists, since unfortunately the little frog disappeared from everyone's sight. We do not know why it disappeared; maybe it was a result of pollution or climate change might have influenced it.

Previously, this little frog was very common in our community, but now it only exists in people's memories. After finishing the research, the professors at the IVC taught us many technical things regarding recording and editing videos, among others. We made a documentary about the search for the little frog and a rap to raise awareness among people that we must take care of nature and the living beings that inhabit it. I will leave the YouTube link to both videos so that you can learn a little more about this species and the whole experience of our research. In the rap, I am one of the performers, a challenging experience for me, but one that I enjoyed a lot.

Finally, together with Professor Ángel Ulloa, a visual artist, we created a mural about the little frog, leaving imprinted through this mural the traces that this little frog once existed in our community. I felt very happy and grateful for this beautiful experience and the new knowledge gained.

Hola, amigos, ¿cómo han estado? Hoy quería compartir con ustedes una experiencia maravillosa, un trabajo de investigación que se convirtió en arte y mucho aprendizaje. En primer lugar, les quiero mostrar este hermoso mural que representa a la protagonista de esta investigación. Se trata de una ranita llamada Arlequín anaranjada ( Atelopus sorianoi) que solo se encuentra en el Estado Mérida, Venezuela, municipio Sucre.

En realidad nunca supe de su existencia hasta que llegaron unos biologos a mi comunidad el Hato de estanques, ellos son parte de una organización llamada Instituto venezolano de investigaciones cientificas (IVIC ) y expresaron tener conocimiento de que está ranita tuvo existencia en años pasados en nuestra comunidad por lo que querían hacer un trabajo de investigación conjuntamente con los estudiantes del liceo y los habitantes de la comunidad especialmente con nuestros abuelos quienes llegaron a conocer está ranita y saber un poco más de esta especie. El objetivo estaba claro, descubrir gracias a su experiencia si todavía se podían encontrar.

El trabajo de investigación lleva el nombre de "En la búsqueda de "Arlequín Naranja" para salvar nuestro ecosistema .

Para mí fue una experiencia nueva donde aprendí muchas cosas, tanto de la naturaleza como de nuestro ecosistema y la importancia de rescatar las distintas especies en extinción, así como las que fueron parte de nuestros antepasados. Nos divertimos mucho al escuchar los relatos y anécdotas que nos hacían nuestros abuelos de la comunidad referentes a la ranita naranja.

Luego de realizar entrevistas a los habitantes de la comunidad, realizamos recorridos en la montaña y alrededores del pueblo en búsqueda de la ranita arlequín, pero lamentablemente no la encontramos. Nadie la ha vuelto a ver desde aproximadamente tres años; no sabemos si aún está existente, ya que lastimosamente la ranita desapareció de la vista de todos. No sabemos por qué desapareció; tal vez fue producto de la contaminación o pudo influir el cambio climático.

Anteriormente, esta ranita era muy común en nuestra comunidad, pero ahora solo está en el recuerdo de la gente. Luego de terminar la investigación, los profesores del IVC nos enseñaron muchas cosas técnicas en cuanto a grabar y editar videos, entre otros. Realizamos un documental sobre la búsqueda de la ranita y un rap para concientizar a las personas de que debemos cuidar a la naturaleza y los seres vivos que la habitan. Les dejaré el enlace a YouTube de los dos videos, para que conozcan un poco más de esta especie y toda la experiencia de nuestra investigación. En el rap yo soy una de las intérpretes, una experiencia desafiante para mí, pero que disfruté mucho.

Finalmente, realizamos junto al profesor Ángel Ulloa artista plástico, un mural sobre la ranita, dejando plasmado a través de este mural las huellas de que alguna vez esta ranita tuvo existencia en nuestra comunidad. Me sentí muy feliz y agradecida por esta bella experiencia y los nuevos conocimientos obtenidos.
