Blossoms And Fruits In The Orchard
Hello, flower lovers! πΌπ
I used to take a lot more photos of flowers, especially meadow flowers, when I was still running regularly. But for the last few years, I've just been looking at the flowers in my mother's garden and orchard, which, although she's getting on in years, she still looks after.
These are photos from the beginning of June. I should have posted them earlier, but they were always on the back burner due to other priorities.
They were taken when my wife sent me to pick elderflowers so she could make elderflower syrup. She does that every year, a few litres, and then we drink the juice over the summer and also in the autumn if there is any left.
I didn't have to go far; there are a few elderberry trees in my mother's orchard, so I picked them there.
It was the right time to pick; the flowers should not be too ripe, because then the small flowers and the pollen, which is essential for the syrup flavor, fall off.
You don't need much for elderflower syrup; anyone can make it at home:
For a litre of syrup, you need 12-15 elderflowers, a litre of water, and a kilo of sugar. Heat the water and sugar until the sugar dissolves. Then, cool to room temperature and add the elderflowers, a sliced lemon, and a few mint or lemon balm leaves. Cover and leave to stand for two days in a dark place, stirring occasionally. After soaking, strain the liquid, and the syrup is ready.
Since I was already in the orchard, I took a quick photo tour of the current state of the other fruit.
There is also one sour cherry, which we call "viΕ‘nja". The fruit is edible, but it is very sour. Here, it's used more for pies or strudels, or it's added to apple brandy, and then we have cherry liqueur.
The sour cherries are not ripe yet either, it will take some time, and then the birds usually eat most of them :)
Some apples will not ripen until October.
From here on, I took the time to apply the HDR toning adjustment in Photoshop to the photos. Sometimes it produces good, very colourful results, but it has to be adjusted manually for most photos, and this process is time-consuming.
However, if you don't try, you won't know, and it's best to learn from your own mistakes :)
Figs, which are now gone. They have all fallen, and now others are growing.
If the birds don't eat them, there will be some. Last year we harvested six fruits :)
And finally, kiwifruit flowers. There will be a lot of fruit, depending on the number of flowers, but that is why they will be small. Let us be surprised.
I hope you like the photos.
Thank you for your attention.

Absolutely amazing.
Beautiful photos of flowers and fruits. Cheers :)
Thank you very much. Sometimes we really don't realise what an excellent environment we live in.
You're welcome!
You're right, brother, and sometimes we also often pass by beautiful little things in our environment :)
That's true.
Your mom's garden is full of beautiful plants and flowers. That elderflower looks amazing too. When they're in full bloom, they made the place looks more brighter and livelier especially it has pretty color too. I'm curious though how it taste when you make it as a juice. Sounds like a refreshing drink to make.
The preparation of syrup is a traditional process in our region. It was made by grandmothers, mothers, and now by us. It is very easy, the recipe is in the post, and the juice is delicious. We also make a tea from the dried, ripe fruit, which is healthy for the lungs.
Nice and interesting post
I'm glad you like it.
Thank you for sharing, I had no idea about elderflower syrup. Have you made it before? Curious to know what the taste is like... π€€
Great post! π
Thanks. Yes, we made syrup from blossoms each year; the recipe is already there. Also, we dry fruits and make a winter tea.
