Beer Tasting Bamberger Rauchbier & Pedavena Speciale

avatar

Hello, beer lovers! 🍻

It's Saturday and time for #beersaturday, the 342nd in a row.
I've been noticing a crypto-panic on the networks the last few days, but hey, there's no point getting nervous, ups and downs are part of the constant!

For today, I have one German can and one Italian bottle. I will be happy to empty them and report back on the experience!

🍻 😎 🍻

Bamberger Rauchbier

Brewed by Klosterbräu Bamberg, Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany.
Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.3% ABV, IBU 30. Rauchbier (Smoked beer) style.

What do the Master Brewers say?

With its deep black shimmer and impressive beige foam, this traditional Franconian cult beer from Bamberg is visually appealing. It has a distinct smoky aroma that is pronounced on the nose, followed by a balanced, fruity hop note from the finest Hallertau aroma hops. The smoky flavour comes from the use of beech wood during the malt drying process. On the palate, the velvety flavours of liquorice, smoked ham, dark chocolate, and roasted caramel nuances lovingly complement each other. A fundamental specialty for connoisseurs and lovers of this original beer variety.

I have to admit that I don't remember ever having tried a smoked beer, so I think it will be an exciting experience.

The beer is dark brown, almost black, with a solid head that disappears quickly. It has a smoky smell. A sip goes down the throat smoothly, and on the palate I first taste sweetness and smoky bacon, then, but less so, chocolate and caramel. No bitterness.

Only in the aftertaste, when everything has disappeared, does a slight bitterness remain for a while.

A surprisingly drinkable and tasty beer! Very balanced, perhaps less bitter than I would have expected for IBU 30. The smoked bacon was not as extreme as I expected and was well-balanced with the hops. Maybe some people find this kind of beer extreme, but having tried practically all fruits in IPA beers, even smoked bacon can :)
Otherwise, I prefer ham or steaks ...
Local shops don't have it, I ordered it from Kalea Beer Box.

🍻 😎 🍻

This afternoon, my younger son and I started picking apples to press into juice. We still have 10 more apple trees to pick, which will take all next week.

While cleaning out the basement, I stumbled upon a collection of items from my past, including 10 old vinyl records. I haven't had a turntable for a long time, but I'll give them to friends who (still) collect them.

And now the reward question :) 😜🤑😵‍💫🤔
In the first photo of this post, in the background are two vinyl records by two world-famous bands.

🍻 😎 🍻

Let's move forward! I still have an Italian beer to go!

Pedavena Speciale

Brewed by Fabbrica di Pedavena, Pedavena, Venetto, Italy.
Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.9% ABV, IBU N/A. Special lager.

What do the Master Brewers say?

The use of the ancient recipe for special beers that were once made in the historic Pedavena factory, together with the richness of the aromas and the fullness of the taste, make this beer unique and highly appreciated by the most demanding consumers. Pedavena Speciale beer is a low fermentation beer with a high alcohol content. Hopping at the end of boiling crowns a balance of aromas between malt and hops.

Well, that's nice, an ancient beer recipe. In ancient Rome, beer was considered the drink of the lower classes and the barbarians, while the wealthy Romans appreciated wine more.

The beer is clear, orange in colour, and the head is average. It has no particular smell. A sip goes down the throat smoothly. In the mouth, I taste the sweetness of the malt, followed by a slight bitterness from the hops. Elegant and harmonious, with no other admixtures.
In the aftertaste, everything slowly disappears.

A very good and balanced lager. For special occasions they say. Well, as far as I'm concerned, I could drink a beer like this every day :)
I got it in Italy, in the Famiglia shop, very good price, €1.75 a bottle. I wouldn't mind having a beer like this in my fridge.

🍻 😎 🍻

And what am I listening to when writing this and tasting beer?
Something from Friday's New Tunes selection.

The first beer sounds like something I would like. I like smokey beers as long as the smoke isn't overpowering

Greetings,
The Bamberger Rauchbier's smoky aroma and deep color sounds exceptional.
Have you tried any other smoked beers before?
I would love to try this original drink.

Maybe I tried other smoked beers, but years ago. And I didn't like them. But this is smooth.

Probablemente te resulte difícil encontrarlos en tu zona, ya que son más bien locales.

Pink Floyd, Animals album and Genesis, And Then There Were Three. Nice trivia!

I've never had a smoked beer either, I like some smoke in my Scotch so I bet I would enjoy it as well. Sounds interesting! The second beer sounds refreshing, Italian, I don't think I've ever seen it on this side of the pond. What a great Saturday!
