Beer Tasting 4 Mudraca Pale Ale and Brainfucker IPA
Hello, beer lovers! 🍻
There is a sweltering summer atmosphere here on the island of Pag, with temperatures currently reaching 35 degrees Celsius. I'm hiding in the shade, cooling off in the sea, which is warm, 24 degrees, perfect for me, so I'm fine.
The only bad news is that my wife got a message that she has to go to work on Monday, so we're going back tomorrow :(
Regardless, there will be no panic today :)
Beer is chilling in the fridge; I have two Croatian beers from new breweries I'm not familiar with for today; we'll see what happens.
First, the one with less alcohol.
4 Mudraca Pale Ale
Brewed by Pivski Mudraci, Novoselec, Croatia.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 5.0% ABV, IBU 25. Pale Ale style.
What do the Master Brewers say?
4 Mudraca is an unpasteurized and unfiltered beer, making our product a living one that, when consumed in moderation, offers numerous benefits for the body. Two types of hops and two kinds of malt have been used in the production process, resulting in a beer with a distinctive citrus flavor and a hint of floral aroma - drinkability guaranteed! Another skill that has been mastered in this craft beer is flame fighting - the beer is brewed in wood-fired kettles.
This brewery is new to me; 4 Mudraca in English means 4 Wise Men. The fact that the beer is brewed in wood-fired kettles is also new to me.
The beer is a cloudy, golden hue, and the head is average in size. It has no particular smell. It goes down smoothly, and I taste an average bitterness with slight citrus notes.
In the aftertaste, everything disappears quickly.
The beer is drinkable, and I find it interesting that it is brewed in wood-fired kettles. However, the taste is somewhat bland, and apart from an average bitterness, I felt almost nothing. A below-average Pale Ale for me. And the price is reasonable, €1.55, in the Konzum shop.

Brainfucker American IPA
Brewed by Bruman, Buzet, Croatia.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 7.0% ABV, IBU 66. American IPA style.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Unfiltered, unpasteurized light ale beer. American IPA for true style lovers and masochists. Aromatic, bitter, and alcoholic. Brewed with seven hop varieties and four different malts. After the third bottle, magic starts: Your brain escapes your body bondage and flies free like a unicorn on the rainbow...
It is another new brewery for me; this beer with a provocative name could be enjoyable :)
The beer is cloudy, with a light amber hue, and the head is average in size. It smells of hops. A sip goes down smoothly, and the bitterness of the hops explodes in the mouth, followed by tropical flavors, grapefruit, and lemon, with hints of malt sweetness and biscuit in the background.
In the aftertaste, everything slowly fades away, except for the bitterness, which lingers for a while.
Drinkable and delicious beer! A real surprise! I did not expect something so interesting to come from a brewery very close to me, about 40 km away in central Istria. I found it here, on the island of Pag, in the Konzum shop, priced at €2.12. I only had one, so I didn't feel like a unicorn on a rainbow, hahah.
Still, I could have gone on a trip to Buzet, an interesting historical Istrian town, and picked up a packet of these beers.
