How are you?
This heat wave has been going on here for a month now and shows no signs of letting up. But we’ve managed to adapt somehow, as always.
The solution is to stay in the shade or in air-conditioned rooms. And maybe with a glass of something cold in hand. Beer for me, and whatever you like for everyone else :)

I have two very cold cans in front of me—one German and one French. For a change, they’re both wheat beers. I’m looking forward to tasting them and sharing the experience with you. Because it’s #beersaturday.

Paulaner Weissbier

Brewed by Paulaner Brauerei, Munich, Germany.
Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.5% ABV, IBU 16. Wheat beer.

What do the Master Brewers say?

The No. 1 Weißbier in Germany and one of the world’s favourites. Naturally cloudy and shining silky gold in the glass under a really strong head of foam. At the first mouthful this Weißbier classic has a mild aroma of banana. Finer palates detect a trace of mango and pineapple and the balance between sweet and bitter. Beer connoisseurs appreciate the fine note of yeast and the mild but sparkling mix of aromas. It is a typical beergarden beer, which brings people together all over the world.

Yeah, some people I know say this is the best wheat beer.

The beer has a cloudy golden color and a generous, creamy, persistent head. It smells of bananas and cloves. It goes down smoothly; on the palate, I taste the malt's sweetness and notes of banana and herbs.
A slight bitterness emerges in the aftertaste, and everything else fades away.

A smooth and delicious beer!
Definitely a classic among wheat beers. The aroma and flavor are typical of wheat beers—bananas and cloves—light and more refreshing than regular lagers, and not overly complex—a standard weissbier. It’s available locally in most stores, priced at €1.90–€2.20.

In the opening photo, there’s a watermelon in the background. I’m really proud of it because it grew in our field—homegrown and unsprayed.
Of the two seedlings we planted, both grew into huge watermelons. I was very skeptical, though, because watermelons usually don’t thrive where we live.

1664 Blanc Wheat

Brewed by Brasseries Kronenbourg, Obernai, Grand Est, France.
Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.0% ABV, IBU 7. Wheat beer.

What do the Master Brewers say?

1664 Blanc is an original wheat beer. It is a different, fresh and fruity white beer, slightly bitter with hints of citrus and coriander spices. With its modern and elegant blue bottle, 1664 Blanc is perfectly adapted to all moments of conviviality.

Actually, I've already tasted it. They serve it at the pizzeria closest to me—it's not even 100 meters away. Now I have a can of it.

The beer is a cloudy yellow color, with very little head—probably because it spent nearly an hour in the freezer and is very cold. It has no aroma. It goes down smoothly, and my mouth is filled with the aroma of lemon and a slight bitterness from the cilantro.
The aftertaste slowly fades away.

A drinkable and very refreshing wheat beer!
Almost like a beer mixed with lemonade, similar to a Panache or Radler, but still a real beer. Completely different from a classic German wheat beer. Very light and refreshing—the perfect summer beer for the beach. It doesn’t follow the Bavarian tradition of wheat beers; it’s closer to Belgian grain beers with strong fruity or herbal aromas.
Here, it’s available in almost all local stores, with prices ranging from €1.50 to €1.80.
