Hail to the Hive!

On our first day in Egypt we just rested and during the day we observed how incredibly busy the pyramids get with all the masses coming to visit. So we hatched a plan, asked what time the ticket office opened and figured out our morning schedule. We decided to skip breakfast grab a coffee at the Mango Cafe, opposite the ticket office, purchase some drinks and snacks from the little grocery next to it and get in there bang on opening time.

Opening time was 07:30am and accompanied briefly by a Spanish dude we met in the coffee shop, we were the first 3 people to enter on my birthday!

As we walked in these photos were the first we took and we realised immediately what a good idea it was to make the effort to be here first. Within a few hours the place would be absolutely crawling with tourists, but for these brief moments,the place was all ours. Suberb!

The place is a photographic dream ( especially with nobody about) and as such I have literally hundreds of shots to sift through. But as these were the first and there was still a smattering of cloud in the sky, before the desert heat evaporated them, I thought I would do these in Colour, Black & White and colour splash for the Colour Black and White community.

As I have been sifting through the shots I am realising how much the desert and stone lends itself so well to black and white and yet also the rich warmth of the desert really gets conveyed by the colour shots. So I am having a dilemma with many of my shots as you can imagine.

To be honest this is a real teaser taster post as Egypt has so far, the Pyramids especially, coughed up so much material that I want to use as much of it as possible as it’s all so cool.

And we will be traveling to the Sinai next for a spot of diving. I am positively giddy with excitement 🤣
