Agricultural & Industrial Canal Views - Monomad Challenge
Hail to the Hive!
Todays selection were all taken along the same 100m of canal on the Leicester Line of the Grand Union Canal, a mere 8 miles from the city centre.
It’s a location we have stayed at many times as its nice and quiet, relatively pretty and clpose to canal facilities ( such as fresh water and waste disposal) and also shops near by. The perfect pit stop.
As it’s a canal and river trust facilty area they often keep their working barges tied up here.
These are used to tansport machinery for repairs along the network as well as transporting large amounts of vegetation and such like hauled out of the canal. There’s usually quite a bit in the spring.
And just next to this are a bunch of very inquisitive cows that often follow the boat as far as they can. I’m never sure if they are after something or if they are seeing me off and making sure I keep moving. Security cows maybe😉.
And the weather has been a real tease. Still very cool at night but the days have been summer esque and hopefully a hint of what is coming in the next few months as last year was a washout with almost constant rain and very few sunny days. I do love the canals in the sunshine. Still, quiet paradise with very slow moving traffic. Bliss.
So you have to soak these days up while you can, with quite often maybe a nice cold beer to round it all off. Maybe thats what the cosw were after?? My beer!!!
Cool! Used to walk along the Grand Union a bit when I studied at Camden
Rented a large boat in 2000 too, on the Broads up North :-)
I fancy taking the boat through Camden one time.
Would love to assist you doing that!
I have had my own boats for a couple of decades, also a 52 foot old commercial that I converted to a liveaboard.
Taking that bathtub of a river boat backwards through narrow channels connected to the Broads was difficult, but fun once I got the hang of it, locals stared haha
This is so cool; it's very peaceful! The working barges are fascinating to see. It feels so relaxing watching the beautiful scenery, and don't forget the beers!
Thanks @luthis26 . Absolutely never forget the beers!!
Massive thanks guys!!
