Tonight's Donner Lake Sunset
It was another day in paradise today. I spent a few hours on the shore of Donner Lake mid-day, hanging out with some friends. Fun times. Went home and watched a movie. Looked out the window when the movie was done. Realized I had about 10 minutes to grab the camera and run across the street for what looked like a possible great sunset show. And it was! Donner Lake fired off with color and I had set up my gear right as it was getting good.
This is a view looking to the east. It was a nice sunset looking to the west as well, but the east definitely was better tonight.
Shot with the Canon R5 MarkII and a 25-105mm lens, set at 24mm. The ISO was 100, the lens aperture was f/22, and it was a 3.2 second long exposure. I wanted a longer exposure in order to smooth out the wind whipped water. I also had a graduated neutral density filter on the lens to balance out the sky exposure with the water reflection exposure. Pretty happy with this one!
Thank you for looking, and I hope you had a great weekend.

Your eye for detail always shines through. The technical notes are so helpful, but it’s the emotion behind the shot that steals the show!
Thank you! Glad you like the stories to the photos.
It's really nice view. You captured it shines through it.
That longer exposer gave the perfect smoothness on lake's surface... Perfect!
