Icicles and Wildflowers - What a Difference a Day Makes

The spring icicles are blooming!... And the first local wildflowers of the season are also blooming! Ok, the icicles and cross country skiing are a bit unusual for this time of year in Truckee/Tahoe, California. We still have a ton of snow at higher elevations and we just got another few inches of fresh powder over the weekend, the snow storms just won't stop. Quill dog and I got out for another backcountry cross country ski a couple days ago. It was actually incredible conditions and we had a ton of fun!

The next day (yesterday), I delivered a big print to a customer at a slightly lower elevation in Truckee. Afterwards, I decided to take a drive to nearby Stampede Reservoir, a favorite place for Kokanee Salmon fishing. I almost made it to the reservoir but unfortunately, there is still too much snow on this little road. It doesn't look too bad in this photo below, but it got a lot deeper just past those tire tracks.

So, I turned around and drove to the Boca Reservoir boat launch. It and the shoreline were clear and open! I texted my fishing buddies to let them know the good news. Quill and I will be kayak fishing here soon.

While out there yesterday, I saw my first local wildflowers of the season! They aren't much to look at but I am very happy to see them, finally. I have a feeling this is going to be a BIG year for the wildflowers up here, it just might be a bit behind schedule.

Hey, and why not show you another driveway photo. I posted a few of these during this winter, the snow was ridiculous around my house. I finally have a tiny bit of a yard and one of my garden beds has melted out, we might end up with a few home-grown veggies this summer after all.

Here's a flashback to what that driveway looked like March 1st, it's been melting fast but we still have a way to go:

Hopefully, I'll have some more photos of big meadows filled with wildflowers soon... Seeing the flowers yesterday has me excited for the season. Thanks for looking, cheers!

Big time inconvenience at times. But that's the price I pay for living up here. Quill says thank you...

There are advantages and disadvantages to living in such an area, but in my view, the advantage is more. People enjoy such things in the snow-covered area a lot, And because of the snow, humans cannot move around, as we can see in the last picture, the car is completely covered with snow. Your dog is enjoying the snow too much.

Indeed. It's great when locations like these are both about a 15 minute drive from my house. Cheers!

Indeed it was! He'd be ok if there was snow all year long. I'm ready for summer...

Wow so much snow. Our "mountains" here are much lower so the snow is gone. We are ahead on flowers 🙂

It's usually gone by now. But not this year... Enjoy those spring flowers! Hopefully I'll have some in the yard this year but it will be interesting to see what happens. Cheers!
