Flocked Trees In Nature, New Photos

I got out for a really nice hike yesterday, up above Donner Lake at an elevation of around 7,100 feet. There was quite a bit more snow up there than here in town at an elevation of around 5,900 feet. I knew there would be a bit more snow, but it was up to my knees and I was wearing blue jeans... I should have known better. Oh well, it was a great hike and it was cold enough so that my jeans did not get wet, they were just covered in snow.

The frost had built up on the pine trees in a way that some of the trees looked like flocked artificial Christmas trees that you could buy in a store. It was beautiful! So of course, I had to take a couple photos.

Both shot with the Canon 5DS R and a 24-105mm lens, handheld. The ISO was 200, and these were both shot at 1/200 if a second. Smaller lens apertures were used. No lens filters or flash units.

The sky was very blue, and there were no clouds. The falling snow was from a little breeze, blowing some of the frost out of the tree. I thought it was a great look.

The only problem I had with these, was that I wasn't sure which one to use as my blog cover-image. Which one would you have chosen?

Thanks for looking and I hope you are all having a great weekend!

Hello friend @scottshots The first photo, in my opinion, is the one which gives the most details and remains the prettiest. I think today we won't have snow but frost, so I'm waiting for the moment to take a nice photo.
Could you help me? I have a question about caring for your camera. How to manage the change in temperature when moving from indoors to outdoors when it is cold? Do you have condensation droplets forming on your sensor? Do you have a tip to avoid this? I already cleaned my sensor two years ago. I take the camera back for the winter and once again I have spots on my photos

Thank you, glad you like that one!

I personally like to leave my camera in the camera bag for a while before I get it out and upload the photos to the computer. Really, you should wait until it reaches room temperature, which can take a few hours. Realistically, I usually wait about an hour, depending on how cold it was outside and how long the camera was exposed to that temperature. It's not an exact science for me, I usually touch the camera after about an hour of being inside and if feels cool, but not chilly cold, I will take it out and start the upload.

I rarely change lenses when out in the cold, and I never change lenses while the warm-up process is happening. I also use a camera that is very weather resistant and has lots of rubber seals (The Canon 5DS R). Weather resistant L series lenses also help me. Since I am mostly a landscape photographer, I find it wise to spend the extra money on weather resistant gear.

Hope that helps a bit. Happy shooting!

@scottshots Thank you very much for your professional advice. I still get stains if I have to clean them and I don't like touching the sensor which is the most sensitive part of the device

Happy to help! Yes, I rarely clean my sensor. It's wise to touch it as little as possible. Have a great day!

The frost does kind of look like a flower, I didn't notice that. Glad you like it!

Woohoo! Glad you're getting snow!
No snow here today, but I'm going fishing on my buddy's boat. It's going to be a good day!

That second photo is so ethereal, the contrast between the deep blue and ghostly white. Beautiful. We are waiting for our first snow here
