A Few Snowy Photos From Around My House

avatar
(Edited)

We've been having a blizzard here in Tahoe and it has been no joke. I've lived in this house for 20 years, I've taken a lot of photos of big storms and my crazy driveway, but this is the biggest year my wife and I can remember. I also can not find any photos of past big years that had more snow. We've been asked to stay off the roads if we can, for good reason, a lot of snow clean-up needs to happen around here.

The snow stopped today but is supposed to pick back up on Saturday. I've been doing a lot of snow removal the last couple of days. Thought I'd share a few photos of the madness so you know it's not all just beautiful sunsets and rainbows in Tahoe...

20230228_074745.jpg

The snow berms have been massive. And the plows just keep coming back and making new berms again. Oh well, we need the roads cleared and my little Honda 928 snowblower is a lot easier than shoveling.

20230301_100744.jpg

These guys are my heroes! It's a giant snowblower, they widen the roads after the snow plows go through. It's always fun to stop and watch them for a minute. So loud!

20230301_105436.jpg

20230301_105348.jpg

Yup, that's the highest the snow has been on the edge of my driveway. It's kind of cool to see but man has it been challenging.

20230301_105433.jpg

My office door has needed constant shoveling. When all that snow eventually slides off my metal roof, it will probably take me a few hours to dig out the door, no joke.

20230301_115125.jpg

Quill dog doesn't mind. He loves everything, including this blizzard...

20230301_121002.jpg

Here's my wood pile, more of a cave than a nice stack right now... That black thing on the ground on the left is the top of my compost tumbler.

20230228_154930.jpg

That bar on the right, it's the top of the monkey bars/swing set.

20230301_113752.jpg

Sigh... Non-stop berms.

20230301_094102.jpg

My neighbor doesn't live here full-time, most people in my neighborhood don't as it's a big ski resort town, lots of second homeowners and short term renters on vacation. This neighbor always appreciates it when I text him a photo of his house. Look at how much has piled up on the roof! Fortunately, the homes around here are built to take the weight.

Shhh. I didn't tell you this but I believe this house will be listed for sale this summer. Want to be my neighbor? No!? Didn't think so. But living here keeps things interesting.

20230301_122629.jpg

All done for the day. Back to emails and office work...

20230301_122658.jpg

20230301_121433.jpg

Thank you for looking and allowing me to vent for a minute. I hope you are all having a great day!

It’s epic so much snow… just amazing.
It’s sad, all the snow here is melted. I would have liked it that it would have stayed a bit longer…
Have a wonderful evening and new month 😊👋🏻
Beautiful captures… doggie seems to be enjoying himself 😎

Wow, that is crazy amount of snow. Sure looks great but I can imagine the work to remove.
I wonder how long will it take to melt finally.

Well I certainly won't be getting an early start to veggie garden season... But hopefully we won't be hearing "drought, drought, drought!!!" around here this summer. Who am I kidding, we will still be hearing that, lol. Cheers!

12 feet in one winter was enough to make me leave Trout Lake, WA. Daily shoveling of the driveway and the berm with snowshoeing out to clear the windows was more than I could handle. What you have there is on a whole other level though. It is all about perspective. lol.

20 years ago, this was fun! When it's like this now, I start to question my life decisions. So much work. But it should be a beautiful day tomorrow!

I start to question my life decisions

No kidding. Where I live now in central Oregon we only have a few inches but it seems like it has been here since Thanksgiving. Teens or lower at night and barely breaking freezing during the day, I think I'm ready for a more temperate climate.

At any rate enjoy your beautiful day and stay sane!😀😜

Thanks!
My dad moved to Arizona last year. 120° F in the summer but the "cold" temperatures he's been having lately sure do seem nice. Cheers!

Thats just insane amounts! When I think there is
a lot of snow here in Alaska I just look at your photographs!
No where near those amounts, wow! Surprised there is room to put
all that white stuff! :-) Gonna be a heck of a break up this year!

Haha! Glad my photos help you out like that.
The snowblower is having a tough time with the tallest part of the driveway walls. I have to throw the snow to the back of the driveway, then up and out again.
If it gets hot fast or rains a bunch, we will probably have flooding all over the area, we shall see... Big year. Cheers!

Goodness, what kind of snow hell is that. It is sooooo thick 😲. It is Like almost eating what's on the ground. But look ay that Quill the doggo, looks like he's enjoying it more 😆. Anyways stay safe.

It felt a bit hellish at times, even though it was cold. But now that the storm has stopped, it will be looking beautiful out. Quill loves the snow, indeed. Cheers!

Crazy snow levels. We have had a mild one. I'll probably never be back in Cali. Once you sell out of that market, its hard to get back in lol

We're stealing all the moisture from the storms before they head out that way... I have a feeling I will be a very busy real estate photographer this spring. When we have a big winter, a lot of homes go on the market, and prices tend to come down a bit. But yeah, prices have gone crazy in the last 2-3 years. I could never afford to buy in my neighborhood again.

So much snow. It's more work than fun when it's like this, but I hope to get out and have some fun in the snow tomorrow. Maybe a snowshoe hike with Quill dog and the camera... Cheers!

People love to see snow, but It cause difficulty for those who lives in those areas. You seems to enjoy removing the snow ;) Your dog really enjoying sitting on the snow.

The dog really enjoys the snow, indeed. I enjoy removing the snow for about 5 minutes, but then I'm grumpy while I remove it for the next couple hours. It was almost non-stop removal for a couple days. Fortunately, it's sunny and not snowing today, cheers!

Wow that is a crap ton of snow. Your photos just cranked up the Way-Back Machine...
I lived in Reno about 25 years ago and I remember a winter like the one you are having now. I think the total accumulation for the winter up in Tahoe was over 20'. There was one massive snow storm (8'+/-) and all we wanted to do was get up the mountain to do some skiing but the roads were closed for days. The first resort we could get to was Mt. Rose, not my favorite but that was some amazing skiing those days.
Good luck moving all that snow. !LUV the photos.

Thank you for the "good luck"! Fortunately, it's not snowing today and I don't have to touch the shovel. Yeah, most of the resorts have been closed during this, just too much to deal with and not safe to drive. We're still being asked to stay off the roads if we can, a lot of clean up needs to happen.

About 25 years ago... Would that have been the big El Niño winter of 1997? I was living in South Lake Tahoe that winter and working as a resort photographer at Heavenly Ski Resort. It was my first year on a snowboard and we had almost daily powder days. Fun times!

Our snowfalls are absolutely not comparable to yours! How much snow has covered you! Do you often have such snowfalls?

We do get a lot, but this is an incredibly big year!

Here's a chart my wife found. We're a little lower elevation than where the measurements were taken but the totals are somewhat similar.

It's a great place for a vacation! Truckee is definitely a "tourist town". Tons of short-term-rental homes here, I even have one next door to me. And nearby Reno, Nevada has a lot of big hotels and big casinos. It's a fun place to play with friends, cheers!

Man that makes me think of skiing which I haven’t done in quite a while.

We had a flash blizzard here a couple days ago but nothing like that!

The snowblower has made an appearance this year though and it is a victory when one of the kids is pushing it!

Big thanks to our friend @offgridlife for the logging this so I could discover it.

Nice! (and thank you @offgridlife!)
Glad you got to use the snowblower, it's always fun but it gets a little old on big years like this. Ah, once upon a time my son would help me with snow removal. He's out of the house now so it's all on me.

The skiing/snowboarding up here is epic! Doctor's orders, I'm not supposed to ride or mountain bike any more, can't risk bonking my head that's had issues... Still love it up here though. Cheers!

Wow… now that is a snow Bank.

Lola would love it there.

We only have about 4 feet of snow so far this year way up north in Canada 🇨🇦

Nice! looks like the perfect amount of snow up there for the dogs. Quill has a good attitude but it's kind of sad watching him struggle through the deep stuff. Sad but funny, because he still wags his tail. Cheers!

Madness indeed! That is a lot of snow! Send some our way. We're still in the grips of a heat wave in one of the hottest corners of SA. But my memories of living in the US was those unforgettable white winters. And fall. Who can forget those beautiful autumnal seasons?

I truly wish I could send some of this to you and have a little less in our yard... All of the seasons are great up here but Autumn might be my favorite for photography, we get a lot of yellow leaves on the Aspen trees. Cheers!
