Intro

With 31 pictures I now show a really small section of the sights inside the castle. Mind you, we are only in the courtyard area and not in the towers and halls, which can only be visited as part of a guided tour. You can find an overview plan and the exterior views in the first post of this series.

Mit 31 Bildern zeige ich nun einen wirklich kleinen Ausschnitt der Sehenswürdigkeiten im Inneren der Burg. Wohlgemerkt, wir sind nur im Hofbereich und nicht in den Türmen und Sälen, die nur im Rahmen einer Führung zu besichtigen sind. Einen Übersichtsplan und die Außenansichten findest du im ersten Post dieser Serie.

The Inner Gate / Das Innere Tor

After passing the lower gate, the inner gate follows only a few meters later. Again, various defense mechanisms are installed inside. To the left of it is a hole between the gate and the wall, a well-paved path leads from there down to the old town of Harburg.

Nachdem das untere Tor passiert ist folgt das Innere Tor nur wenige Meter dannach. Wieder sind im Inneren verschiedene Verteidigungsmechanismen verbaut. Links davon ist ein Loch zwischen Tor und Mauer, ein gut befestigter Weg führt von dort hinunter in die Altstadt von Harburg.

Entrance to the Upper Gate / Aufgang zum Oberen Tor

Now we continue uphill, past the Red Stables and the collection of pewter figures.

Nun geht es weiter bergauf, vorbei an der Roten Stallung und der Zinnfigurensammlung.

1567 can be read above the entrance to the upper gate.

Über dem Eingang zum Oberen Tor ist 1567 zu lesen.

The Upper Gate / Das Obere Tor

Unfortunately there were too many people on the other side, so this gate can only be seen from the courtyard. The large drop gate is very striking, one of several that turned potential attackers into shish kebabs. Next to it is the white tower with a fortification, the demarcation to the lower courtyard, where the stables and officials were at home.

Leider waren zu viele Menschen auf der anderen Seite, so dass dieses Tor nur vom Hof aus zu sehen ist. Sehr auffällig ist das große Falltor, eines von mehreren, das potentielle Angreifer zu Schaschlik gemacht hat. Daneben der Weiße Turm mit Wehranlage, die Abgrenzung zum unteren Hof, dort waren die Stallungen und Amtspfleger daheim.

The courtyard / Der Innenhof

From left to right we see the Pfisterei, the church and the large Fürstenbau and fountain in the middle of the courtyard.

Wir sehen von links nach rechts die Pfisterei, die Kirche und den großen Fürstenbau und den Brunnen in der Mitte des Hofes.

Nice that the lock on the small door works, children who are not decent could quickly disappear there, but this was certainly not a desirable place for unpleasant contemporaries.

Schön dass das Schloß an der kleinen Tür funktionsfähig ist, Kinder die nicht anständig sind könnten dort schnell verschwinden, aber auch für unangenehme Zeitgenossen war dies ein sicherlich nicht allzu begehrenswerter Ort.

In the backyard of the bastion we see a somewhat haphazard construction, which suggests many owners with different needs.

Im Hinterhof der Bastei sehen wir eine etwas planlose Bauweise, sie läßt auf viele Eigentümer mit unterschiedlichen Bedürfnissen schließen.

And then finally the view of Harburg and parts of the crater area.

Und dann endlich die Aussicht auf Harburg und Teile des Kratergebietes.

Castle Church / Schlosskirche

In the church, the life-size figures of former residents of the castle were particularly striking. Worth seeing is the construction with the various galleries and plateaus and the crypt in the middle of the church.

In der Kirche fielen vor allem die lebensgroßen Figuren ehemaliger Bewohner der Burg auf. Sehenswert ist die Bauweise mit den verchiedenen Emporen und Plateaus und der Gruft in der Mitte der Kirche.

On my next visit I will take a guided tour, we will see whether it will be allowed to take photos there. My conclusion: Well worth seeing and also a great location for concerts and festivals!

Bei meinem nächsten Besuch werde ich dann eine Führung mitmachen, ob es dort dann erlaubt sein wird zu fotografieren werden wir sehen. Mein Fazit: Überaus sehenswert und auch für Konzerte und Festivals eine tolle Location!
