Cosas perdidas

La caja de cosas extraviadas se iba quedando vacía. Las primeras que escogieron los estudiantes eran las más interesantes. Un reloj antiguo bastante antioxidado, una pequeña plancha de las que usaban carbón en lugar de electricidad, una cajita de música con una bailarina, algunos juguetes antiguos y algunas estampas. Para cuando fue el turno de Sofía, la caja ya no tenía mucho que ofrecer, cerró los ojos y tomó una fotografía, era la de un ave con unos cuantos garabatos al reverso. La dinámica consistía en escribir un cuento basándose en el objeto. Sofía observó largamente la fotografía sin que nada se le ocurriera. Al final decidió escribir una en la que narraba la ansiedad que sentía cuando veía las cosas interesantes que salían de la caja para el final encontrarse con la foto de un pájaro.

Su solución fue interesante y válida para la maestro pero también la más inesperada. Por supuesto la fotografía de arriba no es la de la historia. Esta es una que tomé en el parque mientras almorzaba en una banca.

Lost things

The lost and found box was getting empty. The first items the students chose were the most interesting: an antique clock that was quite rust-resistant, a small iron that used charcoal instead of electricity, a music box with a ballerina, some old toys, and a few stamps. By the time it was Sofia's turn, the box didn't have much left to offer. She closed her eyes and took a photograph—it was of a bird with a few scribbles on the back. The activity involved writing a story based on the object. Sofia stared at the photograph for a long time, but nothing came to mind. Finally, she decided to write a story about the anxiety she felt when she saw the interesting things that came out of the box, only to find herself face to face with a picture of a bird.

Her solution was interesting and valid for the teacher, but also the most unexpected. Of course, the photograph above isn't the one from the story. This is one I took in the park while I was having lunch on a bench.
