The Plum Tree That Grew With My Son

Hi!

I created this account with the idea of writing about games, because at that time gaming was my main form of entertainment and I was wasting quite a lot of time on it. But well, times have changed. I've grown up, I have a wife and two children. I still play sometimes, but rarely and there's really nothing worth writing about. Instead, my wife and I have a small garden and I feel like showing something from it occasionally :) And maybe also getting some advice or asking for tips.

To begin with, I'd like to show you my plum tree. There's a tradition in Poland (and elsewhere as i know) that a father plants a fruit tree when a child is born. Although people usually plant an apple or pear tree, we decided on a plum. And so it has been growing for the fourth year together with our son, reaching quite large sizes very quickly.

Last year it flowered for the first time, but unfortunately the frost effectively destroyed the blossom. This year it's even bigger and more heavily covered with flowers, which fills us with hope that maybe even some fruit will appear. The only problem is that there aren't many bees or other pollinators visible... and this is what the plum blossom looks like:

I'll send a full photo of the whole tree once it has fully leafed out after winter :)

This is such a beautiful and emotional story 🌳 It’s amazing how the plum tree mirrors your son’s growth—both growing side by side over the years. A truly touching reminder of how nature and life are deeply connected.

Yes! There's a belief, a "fortune," that if a tree blooms and bears fruit, the child's life will also be fruitful. I don't believe in such things, but it's still a nice symbol and tradition :)

That’s a really beautiful way to look at it 😊 Even if you don’t fully believe in the fortune, the symbolism itself is powerful, watching a tree grow and bear fruit alongside a child feels like a natural reminder of care, patience, and nurturing. Traditions like that carry meaning in their own special way

Greetings from Serbia
And feel free to add another picture of the plum so we can see it.
In our country, it is like a national tree, we make plum brandy from it - Rakia .
We also had problems with frost last year, but this year is promising
Have you pruned it, before pruning you should know what exactly the plum variety is.
And the flowers look great
