Celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi at our society
Let the guardian of the multitudes remove all obstacles
Today is Ganesh Chathurthi and we all gathered at our society community hall and celebrated the event. Lord Ganesh is the most worshiped deities in the Hindu culture and it is believed that he is the remover of all obstacles and worshiping him brings good luck. He is also known as the god of beginnings, so in every festival or rites and ceremonies, he is worshiped first. He is also considered as the lord of intellect and wisdom, so this is a very important festival for all the kids who are students. Kids keep fasting and offer their prayers and break a coconut in front of the deity - I still remember that old saying - if someone breaks it at one shot, then he is blessed. The tradition of breaking coconut is considered is auspicious in the Hindu culture, and it is believed, Lord Ganesha resembles an elephant so it makes it easier for the Lord to get the food when devotees break it and offer. There is a whole big story behind how the Lord got the elephant head, but he is also known as Lambodara because all the universes of the past, present, and future are present in him. These beliefs are what makes our culture so rich and we pass this on to our kids over generations. Let the lord take away all the obstacles and bring happiness for all of us.

What a great insight into your culture. It looks like it was a really great celebration for everyone who was there. I have always been impressed by Indian culture. It's not that we don't have culture over here in the US, but it's more of a mash up and is so much younger than what is across the ocean. At least the white part of it. The indigenous people here have culture that goes back centuries.
Thank you so much - These celebrations makes our belief stronger and brings peace of mind - the eternal happiness that everyone in this world looks forward to.
Absolutely!
It's a fantastic Ganesh Chaturthi celebration in your society. Very nice photos.

Maharashtra is definitely the best place for celebration. I had been there once and I did a post, the celebration just goes on the entire night.
In Mumbai people celebrate for seven days in case of community pandala... other individuals general do the visarjan in 2nd day...
But it is must watch festival in Mumbai and Pune...
Ya, its mega celebration.
It's nice to learn a couple 9f things about your culture.
Wow, Hindu has a long historical link and I am glad you guys are keeping it going.
It's said what science is discovering now was in our ancient knowledge thousands of years back.
Such events should be celebrated as it gives a chance to meet each other and sit and chat with each other. Life is getting very busy.
And that is what creates more stress and these are the stress busters.
Yeah.

The principles of the celebration are quite encouraging. I wish you a good enjoyment of your celebration.
They are very good photos, they represent perfectly the culture and the belief of the inhabitants of that place, very beautiful colors in their clothes and on the altar.
A few days ago, I happened to watch a Czech documentary about India (Kerala in particular) and about some Indian traditions and I actually realized that I already knew some of them from your posts :) I know that Ganesh is one of most important characters in your culture. Maybe the fact that he is depicted as elephant also means that actual elephants are treated with love and respect in your country? I know that in some Asian countries like Thailand, elephants are abused in the tourism industry :(
Yes, of course.
