Is Sleep For The Weak?

(Edited)

I have bad sleeping habits, it's so weird that I sleep for less than 5 hours daily. I always joke with the phrase " sleep is for the weak", In truth, I am addicted to not sleeping. I once read about it that it is called sleep deprivation - Insomnia too. I've been trying to change this for years, but it has been super difficult. For now, It doesn't affect me negatively as I use my time effectively. You might ask if I've taken sleeping pills. The answer is No, I haven't because I don't think it would help.

Let's take a look at what medical practitioners think. How much sleep is necessary;

According to Mayo clinic reports, it varies according to age. Generally, kids require a lot of sleep, about 12 hours or more every day. On the other hand, Adults need 7 or more hours a night.

The quality of sleep is also taken into consideration as interrupted sleep does not count completely

I think several factors contribute to our sleeping habits. Just like I said about my poor sleeping habits, I wasn't born with it, things contributed to making me sleep less. We must address these things before it becomes a habit.

  • Late Night Movies:

As a kid, I was allowed to watch movies all through the night. At first, it made me sleep alot during the day. However, it's gradually become a routine and even after so many years I still stay up late watching movies.

Late Night movies/gaming can affect our sleeping habits. I know it feels different when we watch certain movies at night. However, doing it regularly comes with a cost- Sleep deprivation!

  • Eating Habits:

Eating affects sleeping. These days I try to eat alot of food so I can fall asleep quickly. It is always important that we take care of our eating habits early before it becomes a problem. Eating very late would always mean a delay in sleeping time.

I didn't have this problem as a child however when I started to fend for myself, it became a routine. I started to neglect my stomach which hampered my already poor sleeping habits.

  • Too Much Work:

I remember in the video I made talking about hustle culture, I talked about its effect on our sleep. When we do too much to make end meets, we hamper our sleep.

For example, A lot of people in Africa work for 12-15 hours every day. Not just work, Hard work! It is difficult for these sets of people to cultivate a good sleeping habits. It's might seem as though having money is more important than health to them.

  • Independence:

Contrary to the office workers, we have people who are independent and have time and luxury. Most people sit in front of computers and work from home. They should be able to cultivate a good sleeping habit right? However, that's not usually the case. I've seen alot of people who spend all day at home and do not still have a healthy sleep.

Solution

I think it's a thing of the mind. Youths generally get away with bad sleeping habits. Well, it's what I think, and hope that's true :) we all say sleep is for the weak which is not true. Proper sleep is important for effective life and also a healthy one.
Good sleep/sleeping habits is something that is very much underrated.

Going forward, I've decided to set a sleeping schedule that would help me sleep early. And of course, I'm going to put my mind to it as I know how difficult it would be. It is one of the reasons I've written about this today. I know good sleep is important for everyone.

How much time do you sleep every day? Do you have bad sleeping habits? What do you think can help?

I sleep estimated 4 hours a day, and longer during the weekends. I have two jobs that is why I only have 4 hours of sleep everyday.

I used to do that when I was in college. Watching movies and TV series all night. 😂 It was fun but detrimental to my health. The next day I used to have low energy and felt like shit. Now I sleep like a baby for 8 hours. xD

I find it funny when I hear people say they need energy drinks to stay awake at night. I’ve been a late sleeper so long that it’s literally impossible for me to fall asleep before certain times in the night. Like I can’t sleep. But my late sleeper habit also has the down effect that when it’s that late time of the night, I HAVE to sleep whether I want to or not.

I sleeps all the days long.
I think I get like 9 hours.
Sleep is good for creativity...
Not so much for grinding out autopiliot work.

Yes, I agree. Some people work too much every day! Being independent or being your Own boss helps.

I always try my best to get at least 7 hours of sleep at night because it hits hard waking up very late and all I'm able to do for the day is get lazy. Because I'm groggy and all that. Yet sometimes, I can't really help but stay late especially when I'm reading manhwas and other e-books of my choice. Or just stay up late for no reason, lol.

Anw, thanks for sharing this! It's a great reminder for me to really fix this kind of habit before I can't recover from it. That's scary.

Having enough sleep is good for our health. Many of our youths are addicted in Night movies and other games which is detrimental our health and other business of the day.

Thank you for sharing with us.
And you @samostically create a chance of having enough sleep for yourself. Good bye.
