Wednesday Walk - Castle walk

Hello everyone.

Time for a #WednesdayWalk in July.
Finding a refreshing place to have a walk during summer days may be a challenge. Several days back we went to explore small walkway with excellent shade along the way. I have read that they are adding new walkway around Ostrožac Castle and while being nearby we stopped for a refreshment and short walk. Even though walkway and path around old castle are still under construction with only pathway done it was quite refreshing walk during summer heat.

As I mentioned this walkway is built around walls of Ostrožac Castle. Castle has parts from medieval, Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian period. It is located in Cazin, in north west part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since 2013 Ostrožac castle is on the list of National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Old castle is worth visiting.

Before exploring walk around the castle we had some drinks. Nearby there is a small place with homemade lemonade and iced teas along with coffee and ice cream. Apple and cinnamon iced tea was super refreshment for the hot day.

Then we went for a walk.

Path way is along the walls. It was afternoon and this was sunny side.
As we went forward there was more and more shade.

When ever you turn a corner there is a new view surprise ahead. I visited castle several times but this was different experience.

On one side there are castle walls and other greenery and trees.

Tall walls tower you and there are only small openings on certain places. Thinking about capturing this castle. It would not be an easy task.

As we continue our walk we get closer to the southern part which was made during Austro Hungarian period. There is more and more shade by each step.
The castle is suppose to undergo restoration as well. I say the sooner the better.

This is the map of the planned hiking route called "Una Vista". This should be excellent hiking trail when done. 4 different stages and almost 20 kilometers of nature, greenery and river Una sight seeing.

A bit narrower part of the walk. Contrast from high walls and small narrow pathway is very fitting.

Quite enjoyable walk. This side of the castle and walk was very refreshing for hot summer weather. Dont mind repeating the walk when whole pathway and additional features are done.

This is the entrance of the castle and place where our walk ends. It was good decision to visit castle and check new walkway.
