Visit to Berlin, Siegessäule or Victory Column and The Brandenburg Gate - Germany

avatar

Hello everyone.
This is last part of our short Europe trip last year. After Brussels, Bochum, Dortmund, Cologne and Düsseldorf next on our map was Berlin. It was on our route back home to Bosnia and Herzegovina. We spent some time here and Munich would be next stop after Berlin but due to car trouble we cut short our journey and returned to Bosnia.

We spent good time in Berlin.
I will start with our visit of Siegessäule or Victory Column.
It is monument and landmark in Berlin.
Its construction was finished in 1873 and it is meant to commemorate Germany's victories against Denmark, Austria and France between 1864 and 1871. Later on it was relocated from its original location and and made higher in height.
Present height is 66.89 meters and there is 285 steps. There is a sculpture of Victoria on the top of the Victory Column.

You can see Victory Column from far away and as you get closer Victory Column gets bigger and higher.

67 meters high. Long stairs ahead.

In order to climb on the top you have to use stairs.
And there is 285 steps on the way.
It takes time to go up.
After some time you look up and there is stairs. And you look down you see stairs again.

Also there are small banks to sit and rest if you get to tired.

Is it up or down.

It seems like never ending maze.

At the same time kind of mesmerazing.

And after 285 steps and couple stops as I remember we are on the top of the Siegessäule or Victory Column.
It was worth every step.
View is beautiful.

Here is Berlin.

And down again.

View from the base of the Victory Tower.

Seems like all roads lead to here.

Start and finish point.

Inside there is a exhibition place with mini models of world famous buildings.

Model of Brandenburg Gate.
Of course we visited Brandenburg Gate as well.

Reichstag Building

And Victory Column (Siegessäule).

Time to go.

The Brandenburg Gate or Brandenburger Tor

The Brandenburg Gate or Brandenburger Tor is an 18th-century neoclassical monument in Berlin. It is one of the best-known landmarks of Germany.
Throughout its existence, the Brandenburg Gate was often a site for major historical events and is today considered not only a symbol of the tumultuous histories of Germany and Europe, but also of European unity and peace.
It is opened in 1791. Its height is 26 meters.
(per wikipedia source)

The Quadriga on the top of the gate in meant to symbolize peace entering city.

The Brandenburg Gate is large monument. When you pass under you can feel its massiveness.

The Brandenburg Gate is place you should see if you come to Berlin.

The Reichstag building

This is Reichstag building is historic legislative government building on Platz der Republik in Berlin, is the seat of the German Bundestag. It is also the meeting place of the Federal Convention, which elects the President of Germany.
The Neo-Renaissance building was built in 1884. Building was modernized and restored in 1960s. ( per wikipedi source )

After this we spent some time in the city and in the morning we continued our journey.
Visiting Berlin for the first time was quite enjoyable.
I assume there is much more places to visit and explore in Berlin. It is worth visiting for sure.
Next stop was Munich but our car broke so with help of lovely people in Munich we continued back home without exploring Munich.
We had lovely time on this trip.
