PhotoFeed Contest - Wildlife Photography Round 126 ~ Blind Worms
Hello...
In the PhotoFeed Wildlife Photography Contest Round 126 hosted by @Photofeed, I tried to share a photo of a blind snake. Blind snakes are also known as worm snakes because their shape and size resemble earthworms. These snakes have small, cylindrical bodies with smooth, shiny scales and are generally dark in color, such as brown or purplish black. Their main characteristic is their very small, almost invisible eyes because they live underground and do not rely on sight.
Blind snakes are typically found in damp environments, such as under dry leaves, loose soil, or rotting logs, as seen in this photo. They are non-venomous and harmless to humans, as their primary diet consists of small insects, larvae, and termites. These snakes are rarely seen on the surface except after heavy rain or when the soil is disturbed, as their natural habitat is underground.
Ecologically, blind snakes play a vital role in maintaining ecosystem balance by preying on soil pests such as larvae and small insects. Their presence often indicates healthy soil conditions. Although often mistaken for worms or venomous snakes, these snakes are very docile and actually beneficial. Therefore, it is important to recognize and protect this species as part of our valuable biodiversity.
That's all I can share for now. I hope you enjoy it. Thank you very much for reading this post. I hope it's helpful. Thank you.
