Wazir Khan Masjid near Delhi Gate at Lahore

avatar

Hello guys. I went to Lahore with my friends two months ago and there we visited this magnificent masjid Wazir Khan. This masjid is the second most magnificent and famous masjid in Lahore after Badshahi Masjid. It is located near Delhi Gate and it was our one day tour so I left here at 6 am and I reached Lahore at around 9 am. I was the first of my friends to reach there and my other friends also reached after about half an hour. We first visited Wazir Khan Masjid because the day we went was Friday and prayers start at 2 pm and we tried to visit this masjid well before 1 pm.

Lahore is a very historical city and there were many old buildings near this masjid. When I saw the main entrance of the masjid, I was very excited to visit it from inside. Its main entrance is designed like a very big dome from the outside as you can see in the picture above. Its walls were very thick and small bricks were used in them which are durable. You can see the art done on its entrance which gives a very sophisticated and ancient vibe.

When I entered its entrance, I saw a large dome and many dome-shaped windows on all four sides. Its re-construction was also going on because this masjid is more than 300 years old and is still standing and this masjid was built during the reign of the Mughal emperor. I found a chandelier above which green and blue lights were burning and this chandelier was further enhancing this dome-shaped entrance and giving a majestic view.

When I looked in front, I saw a big hall and in the middle of this hall there is an area for performing ablution. In the picture below, you can see that Taha is walking fast because my other two friends had already reached inside the masjid because they were in a hurry but I was busy taking pictures behind because I wanted to capture every beautiful moment. There were rooms on both sides of this hall and they had wooden doors.

Small red bricks were used in the hall of this masjid and they were laid in a design with a sequence. When I reached the door inside the masjid, I found this door too very big and above it you can see the 3D art on the dome which is very elegant. I took some pictures of this art because I am very attracted to these old-fashioned carvings.

I saw art of some flower plants and extremely fine carvings on the walls of the masjid, which was truly amazing. In the picture below, you can see that I took a short of the main entrance from inside and I found this picture very beautiful. Two minarets have been built on both side of the main entrance.

This is the Imam's chair which was made of wood and the carvings on it were also made of wood and it was really fascinating to see it up close. I also saw some verses of the Quran on the walls which were written in a very elegant way.

This is me and I took a picture sitting on the Imam's chair also and my pictures captured by @tahastories1 because the other two friends were walking with 2x speed and we were both looking at the carvings on each wall. I felt like I was in an ancient era because the carvings on the walls were attracting me and I was wondering how this masjid was built.

In this masjid you will see a lot of carvings and 3D art on the walls and this is what makes this masjid famous and beautiful and people come from far and wide to see these carvings and old walls. Here two of my friends @moaz-sabir & @mojiko-blog were calling me that we should leave now because we had to visit some other locations but I was busy taking pictures even while going back.

You can see in the picture above that Taha is taking a picture but his face is towards me and behind him Moaz is also enjoying the carvings on the walls of this masjid. You will see a small pavilion in the hall of the masjid with stairs going down inside and that way was closed so I could not go inside. I don't know much about it but as far as I know to keep it safe from the city peoples a masjid was built on the side. Here Taha and Moazam talked about this fascinating masjid for some time with a lady tourist from England.

This is me and I took a picture in front of the masjid and then finally we came out of the masjid. Outside at a shop we found beautiful paintings I saw Taha taking pictures of them and he had taken permission from the shopkeeper to take pictures and I was not aware of this and I started taking pictures without permission. I saw a painting of a Badshahi masjid and some other beautiful paintings. I took some pictures and the shopkeeper asked me to give him 50 thousand rupees and I was shocked after hearing this but Taha said he is joking because you did not take permission after hearing this I breathed a sigh of relief and then I apologized to him and the shopkeeper was quite nice.

We spent only one and a half hours in this Wazir Khan Masjid because we had very little time but even in that one and a half hours I enjoyed it a lot. Its walls and the carvings on them, the art, everything was very ancient and exquisite. I hope you liked this famous masjid of Lahore and its history and the pictures I took. Don't forget to give your opinion about this masjid in my comment section, I will look forward for your impressions.

It's nice to see buildings with traditional architectural designs. The art decorations on the walls and ceiling are unique. Looking at this makes you feel like you are in a different time. Very impressive place!
