Yo Hive! Grow my gram :)

Whatsup Hivers,

Since I’ve jumped back into running my own business, things have been moving fast. I’m working on some cool projects again, and now that I live in the city center of Enschede, I’m feeling way more inspired to get back into portrait photography.

The problem

Instagram’s algorithm is rough these days. Growing a new account without spamming 30 reels? Good luck.

Take my last reel; spent a few hours on it, got 2 comments and like 100 views. RIP. That’s partly on me for letting the platform go quiet for a while, but still… if I want to keep the lights on, I gotta be there. it's what's paying the bills :)

So here’s what I’m doing

I created a few new IG accounts for different parts of my work. One of them is focused on portrait work: @rawww.people (Instagram link) check it out, and if you like what you see, drop a follow :))

That’s the one I need to grow the most in terms of time vs ROI. And I’d love to get the Hive fam involved.

Here’s the deal, it's simple:

  • 💬 Drop a sincere comment on one of my portrait posts (1 per post)
  • 📸 Screenshot it
  • 💰 I’ll upvote your participation

Please don't try to play the game.

What kind of content would you actually like to see?

I've been thinking of making a pipe-line for content that goes on that page.

  • Behind-the-scenes content?
  • Photoshop tutorials or edits?
  • Something else entirely?

Let me know in the comments

I probably will make this a weekly or monthly thing.

Really appreciate the help.

Cheers,
Ruben

Hehe, I kinda did the same thing a while back. 100% full steam on Hive. Unfortunately, it killed most of my business that I was getting from social platforms. Thing is, they're still being used by millions of people on a daily basis. So yeah, I think it might be a better approach to build a following where the people are, then waiting for people to come in while you're being in an empty room (compared to the big tech companies).

I've onboarded a couple of people, but most of them have become inactive because the hard truth is that Hive is just not as easy to use compared to the apps. UI/UX wise, design wise, it's not Hive to be honest, its the apps that are build on top of Hive that contain a bit more knowledge and patience to use. Most people don't have the patience, or wanting to learn how something similar works.

I have given up on using instagram ages ago. Now I am thinking about stopping using Facebook as well. Lithuanians on facebook don't seem to like my works. Like you said I often spend hours on an art piece. And on facebook I get a few likes and no comments. On Hive I often get a few dollars and several comments. So for me Hive is clearly superior.

I’m working on some cool projects again

Same here. about a week ago I started drawing manga. And now I am already trying to create another manga for a huge contest. I don't think that I have a chance of winning but if I would win main prize(2000 eur) that would be huge victory.

What kind of content would you actually like to see?

Photoshop tutorials or edits.

I think that it maybe has some similarities with program I use (Clip studio paint.) So maybe I could learn something useful.

The thing for me is, potential clients are on Instagram, not on Hive. There might be a Dutch community here, but not many are from around my location where I offer my services to.

To accelerate growth on Instagram, you'd need comments on your socials. At least, that's one metric. Social score is so important for a photographer these days, it's crazy.

Nice man! There's plenty of tutorials on YouTube and Instagram that you can learn from and increase your skill in drawing.

Photoshop tutorials or edits.

Will note this, any in particular? :)

I don't know anything about Photoshop so anything you would share could be interesting.
