A few years ago, I received a a decent amount of requests from people if I did live 1 on 1 photography (master)classes. How much I'd like to do so, I often bump my head when I try to explain something simple. Well, something simple in my mind can start from very basic, to very in-depth pretty fast. This results in me not figuring out how to slow down while explaining so it would be a bit easier to follow. Yes... that's what I hear when I ask for feedback about -anything- I try to explain: "you're not easy to follow"There were some good old friends from my childhood, father plus daughter who were asking if I could give them a 1 on 1 course. Hmm... a bit doubtful as I was, I thought oke, why not? Let's give it a shot. I spend the next few days creating some "homework" for them to study before we'd go testing in the field. I think I gave them pretty basic, yet important knowledge that they could apply anytime they would photograph.
One of the desires was to be able to freely shoot in Manual mode. Manual mode is the only mode I photographed in, so I had to check for myself what the other modes did, automatic... yikes. Oh well, after going through the theory, we'd do some actual practical field tests. We set up a time, a few hours before magic hour, so we could shoot in three different light setups. Daylight, Magic hour, blue light, and a little bit darker. This would fully test their knowledge about Aperture, Shutterspeed, and playing with the light in manual mode. As a bonus, the timing would become the real challenge once the Sun started to set.

It was an awesome day!
It was nice to be wandering around my old childhood neighborhood. For sure. I think I picked the right spot to test out their knowledge. In the end, they thanked me and thought it was one of the best courses they had about learning more about photography. It's always nice to hear if you teach something valuable for the long term! Is there something you would be able to teach others?
Cheers,
Ruben
