Rakaposhi - Mother of Mist

Ok - it seems people here like photos of Pakistan. Here you get some more 😉.

Ever heard of a mountain called the “Shining Wall”?

Meet Rakaposhi (7788 m / 25551 ft) - the 27th highest peak on Earth, rising dramatically in Pakistan’s Karakoram range.

The local people call it Rakaposhi "Shining Wall" or Dumani "Mother of Mist", because this giant is almost always wrapped in swirling clouds and fog, like a mysterious queen veiled in white.

One of the most beautiful and steepest mountains in the world — dropping nearly 6000 meters straight from summit to valley floor.

The hike to Rakaposhi Base Camp was also one of the most impressive hikes we have done on our tours. It's about 8,5 kilometers (5,3 mi) one way with roughly 1,400 meters (4600 ft) of elevation gain.

Steep uphill, a long day.

We weren’t moving particularly fast, started quite late that day and we also had a hiking goat fllowing us. But once you suddenly stand in front of this massive glacier, you get a real boost and the last meters almost walk themselves.

The glacier alone would already be impressive. But with Rakaposhi rising in the background, it’s simply mind-blowing.
