Verona on the other side of the Adige River

Verona has a beautiful historic old town (the "Città Antica" district), which on the map is separated from the rest of the city on three sides by the Adige River. However, it's worth venturing across the river and exploring other districts of Verona. One such site is St. Peter's Hill, located in the northeast corner of the city center. The hill is located on the left side of the river, although the map shows it the other way around.

Werona posiada piękne zabytkowe stare miasto (dzielnica "Città Antica"), które na mapie z trzech stron od reszty miasta oddziela rzeka Adyga. Warto jednak wybrać się na drugi brzeg tej rzeki i zwiedzić inne dzielnice Werony. Jednym z takich miejsc jest wzgórze świętego Piotra znajdujące się po północno-wschodniej części ścisłego centrum. Wzgórze znajduje się po lewej stronie rzeki, chociaż na mapie widać to odwrotnie.

There are several ways to get to the top, one of which is via these stairs. We took them straight to the top. Of course, there are other interesting places to visit along the way, but as with any trip, our time was limited and we had to choose what we wanted to see more of.

Na górę można dostać się na kilka sposobów, jednym z nich są takie schody. To nimi się tam wybraliśmy od razu na samą górę. Po drodze można oczywiście zwiedzać inne ciekawe miejsca, jednak jak na każdej wycieczce czas mieliśmy ograniczony i musieliśmy wybierać co chcemy bardziej zobaczyć.

Another way to get to the top is by cable car. The photo shows a section of it with a walkway under the tracks. One of the viewpoints is also located here.

Innym sposobem dotarcia na górę jest kolejka. Na zdjęciu jej fragment z przejściem pod torami. Tutaj znajduję się też jeden z punktów widokowych.

From the hill, we can see a panoramic view of the city, especially the historic center of Verona, facing southwest.

Ze wzgórza możemy obejrzeć panoramę miasta, przede wszystkim panoramę historycznego centrum Werony. Kierunek południowo-zachodni.

If we look south, but more towards the east, we will see another hill and the Veronetta district.

Jeśli spojrzymy na południe, ale bardziej w kierunku wschodnim to zobaczymy kolejne wzgórze oraz dzielnicę Veronetta.

On the hill there is, among others, the church of San Zeno in Monte (visible tower) behind the buildings of the "Opera don Calabria" (congregations of the Poor Servants and Poor Sisters of Divine Providence).

Na wzgórzu znajduje się m.in kościół San Zeno in Monte (widoczna wieża) za budynkami "Opera don Calabria" (zgromadzeń Ubogich Sług i Ubogich Sióstr Boskiej Opatrzności).

However, in the photo above there is the opposite direction, i.e. northwest and another hill.

Natomiast na powyższym zdjęciu jest już kierunek odwrotny, czyli północno-zachodni i kolejne wzgórze.

At the top stands the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes ("Santuario della Madonna di Lourdes").

Na szczycie wyróżnia się Sanktuarium Matki Bożej z Lourdes ("Santuario della Madonna di Lourdes").

Below on the river bank there is another church, San Giorgio in Braida.

Poniżej nad brzegiem rzeki kolejny kościół San Giorgio in Braida.

In virtually every city, churches, especially their towers and domes, are the most prominent buildings. However, sometimes a town hall or castle will also stand out.

Właściwie w każdym mieście wyróżniające się budynki to kościoły, szczególnie ich wieże czy kopuły. Czasem jednak wyróżniał się będzie również ratusz lub zamek.

So, in addition to the churches on this part of the Adige, on St. Peter's Hill we also find St. Peter's Castle ("Castel San Pietro"). The building was built between 1852 and 1858 as a fortress and barracks for Austrian troops.

Tak więc po tej części Adygi poza kościołami, na wzgórzu świętego Piotra znajdziemy również Zamek Świętego Piotra ("Castel San Pietro"). Budynek powstał w latach 1852-1858 jako twierdza i koszary dla wojsk austriackich.

There were few tourists on St. Peter's Hill, so I recommend this place to people who want to take a break from the crowds and admire Verona in peace.
