Tihany Abbey, Hungary

Hello everyone!

For me, choosing Tihany as my stopover on Lake Balaton was no accident. The lake itself can be seen from various locations. However, Tihany's location on a peninsula with hills offered more stunning views. An additional advantage was the Hungarian monastery, "Tihanyi Bencés Apátság."

Dla mnie wybór Tihany jako miejsca do zatrzymania nad jeziorem Balaton nie był przypadkowy. Samo jezioro można zobaczyć w różnych miejscowościach. Natomiast położenie Tihany na półwyspie ze wzgórzami oferowało fajniejsze widoki. Dodatkowym atutem był pewien węgierki klasztor "Tihanyi Bencés Apátság".

The view from the port towards the monastery perched on the hill is impressive and tempting. We didn't need any persuasion, and after lunch, we set off.

Widok z portu na klasztor znajdujący się na wzgórzu robi wrażenie i zachęca do wejścia na górę. Nas nie trzeba było do tego namawiać i po zjedzeniu obiadu ruszyliśmy na górę.

Castles are usually built on hills. Perhaps if this spot had been a river instead of a lake, this would be where the castle would have stood.

Zazwyczaj na wzgórzach budowane są zamki. Być może, gdyby w tym miejscu zamiast jeziora była rzeka, to właśnie tutaj stałby zamek.

The route ran along a paved road between trees, so despite the heat, the climb was manageable. At the top, on one side of the road to the monastery, there are various small local shops, bars, and restaurants. The scent and taste of lavender dominate the area.

Trasa przebiegała pomiędzy drzewami asfaltową drogą, więc pomimo upału dało się sprawnie podejść. Na górze z jednej strony drogi do klasztoru znajdują się różne małe lokalne sklepiki, bary i restauracje. Dominują tutaj zapachy i smak lawendy.

On the other side, there's a wall where you can stand and take a souvenir photo with the lake in the background. The wall was built along with several viewpoints.

Natomiast z drugiej strony jest mur przy którym można stanąć i zrobić sobie pamiątkowe zdjęcie z jeziorem w tle. Mur powstał razem z kilkoma punktami widokowymi.

The Benedictine Abbey in Tihany is a Baroque Roman Catholic monastery dating back to the mid-11th century. Its founder was King Andrew I of Hungary, who was buried here a few years later. The founding document was written in Latin with Hungarian words (it is the oldest document in that language).

Opactwo benedyktynów w Tihany to barokowy klasztor rzymskokatolicki z połowy XI wieku. Założycielem był król Węgier Andrzej I, którego kilka lat później tutaj pochowano. Akt fundacyjny został spisany po łacinie razem z węgierskimi słowami (jest to najstarszy dokument w tym języku).

Like other such old churches, this one has had its share of destruction and reconstruction throughout its history. If anyone is interested in learning more about the history of the monastery, please visit its website.

Tak jak inne tak stare kościoły, tak i ten w swojej historii ma zniszczenie i odbudowę. Jeśli ktoś jest zainteresowany szerszą wiedzą na temat historii klasztoru, to zapraszam do odwiedzenia jego strony.

I didn't go inside, so I won't judge it (some people find it delightful). The main reason was the crowd of people that began to gather at the church entrance.

Ja do środka nie wchodziłem, więc go nie będę oceniał (dla niektórych jest zachwycający). Głównym powodem był tłum ludzi, który zaczynał się już w wejściu do środka kościoła.

In addition to the church itself, there's also a museum in the basement. There's an entrance fee to the museum; I don't remember what the entry fee was for the church itself.

Poza samym kościołem jest tutaj również muzeum w podziemiach. Wejście do muzeum jest płatne, nie pamiętam jak było z samym wejściem do kościoła.

Next to the monastery, there are numerous benches where you can rest and admire the views. Apparently, this spot offers the most beautiful view of Lake Balaton. It's worth a visit, whether for the monastery or the views.

Obok klasztoru jest sporo ławek na których można odpocząć i podziwiać widoki. Podobno z tego miejsca jest najpiękniejszy widok na Balaton. Warto tu przyjść, niezależnie czy dla klasztoru czy dla widoków.

I haven't been to other areas of this lake, so I have nothing to compare it to. What I remember and see in photos are views like the one in the shot above.

Nie byłem w innych rejonach tego jeziora, więc nie mam porównani. Pozostają mi w pamięci i na zdjęciach takie widoki jak na powyższym ujęciu.
