Tihany - a lavender town in Hungary

Hello to all travelers!

I invite you once again to Tihany, a picturesque resort town on Lake Balaton in Hungary. It is basically a large tourist village (just over 1,300 inhabitants). In a previous post, I featured the 11th-century Benedictine monastery; now I'll be sharing other attractions of this town. This will also be my last travel post about this place.

Witam wszystkich podróżników!

Ponownie zapraszam do Tihany, czyli malowniczo położona miejscowość wypoczynkowa na jeziorem Balaton na Węgrzech. Jest to w zasadzie duża turystyczna wioska (nieco ponad 1300 mieszkańców). W jednym wcześniejszych postów prezentowałem XI-wieczny klasztor benedyktynów, teraz będą inne atrakcje tej miejscowości. Będzie to również mój ostatni podróżniczy wpis dotyczący tego miejsca.

Besides the aforementioned monastery, lavender is probably the main thing associated with this place. Everywhere you can find stands and shops selling various lavender products. I was tempted by ice cream, although I'm not a big gourmet. It tasted quite good; I might eat it again someday.

Poza wspomnianym klasztorem, to chyba lawenda jest głównie kojarzona z tym miejscem. Wszędzie można spotkać stoiska i sklepiki z rozmaitymi wyrobami z lawendy. Ja się skusiłem na lody, chociaż nie jestem jakimś dużym smakoszem. W smaku były nawet dobre, mógłbym je kiedyś ponownie zjeść.

Of course, you will also find something different and classic for tourist places, such as pizzerias (photo above) or restaurants (photo below).

Oczywiście znajdziemy tutaj też coś innego i klasycznego dla turystycznych miejsc, jak pizzerie (zdjęcie powyżej) czy restauracje (zdjęcie poniżej).

I didn't see the entire town, only its main tourist area. Actually, I saw three places: the lakeside port, the hill with the monastery, and the main street, Kossuth Lajos. The above photos were taken during a walk from the port to the monastery, while the ones below were taken during a walk along the main street. The monastery itself is located near the main street, so you can visit both places in one walk.

Nie widziałem całej miejscowości, tylko jej główną turystyczną część. Właściwie trzy miejsca: port nad jeziorem, wzgórze z klasztorem oraz główną ulicę Kossuth Lajos. Powyższe zdjęcia wykonałem podczas spaceru z portu do klasztoru, natomiast poniższe ze spaceru po głównej ulicy. Sam klasztor znajduje się blisko głównej ulicy, więc można te dwa miejsca zwiedzić podczas jednego spaceru.

The main street is a tourist center, almost every house here has been converted into a shop.

Główna ulica to takie turystyczne centrum, tutaj niemal każdy dom został zamieniony na jakiś sklepik.

I didn't check what exactly was available for purchase (I didn't have time to stop for a longer period), but the main theme was lavender.

Nie sprawdzałem co dokładnie można było kupić (nie miałem czasu aby na dłużej się zatrzymać), ale głównym motywem była lawenda.

Lavender colors also dominated in all the decorations of the places.

Kolory lawendy królowały również we wszelkich dekoracjach miejsc.

An interesting exception. Almost the entire house is covered in peppers. The photos only show the entrance, but the peppers were also on the roof.

Ciekawy wyjątek. Niemal cały dom w papryce. Na zdjęciach widać tylko wejście, ale te papryki były również na dachu.

I wouldn't really want to live in such an old house, but they're fun to look at. Anyone who wants to live in Tihany would have to have a lot of money. Apparently, real estate prices here are the highest in all of Hungary.

Raczej nie chciałbym mieszkać w takim starym domu, ale fajnie się je ogląda. Gdyby ktoś chciał zamieszkać w Tihany, to musi posiadać sporo pieniędzy. Podobno są tutaj najwyższe ceny nieruchomości na całych Węgrzech.

That was pretty much the end of my Tihany tour. Just like in Bratislava, my friends saw what they wanted and went faster to the parking lot, leaving me to chase them. This is mainly because I like to take a lot of photos on my trips, while they were content with just a few souvenir shots.

To już właściwie koniec mojego zwiedzania Tihany. Podobnie jak w Bratysławie, kumple zobaczyli co chcieli i poszli sobie szybciej na parking, a ja musiałem ich gonić. Wynika to głównie z tego, że podczas wycieczek lubię dużo fotografować, a im natomiast wystarczy kilka pamiątkowych ujęć.

Finally, a photo I actually took at the beginning of my trip to Tihany. A tourist train I often see on tours but never use.

Na koniec zdjęcie, które właściwie wykonałem na początku wycieczki do Tihany. Turystyczna kolejka, którą często widuję podczas wycieczek, ale nigdy z nich nie korzystam.
