Presidential Palace in Bratislava

Hello to all travelers!

Once again, I invite you to a photographic tour of Bratislava. For various reasons, my travel posts aren't chronological, and today's will be no different. Our last stop in Bratislava was the Presidential Palace. Actually, it's the square in front of it ("Hodžovo námestie") and its front section. Before arriving, I hadn't researched the exact location online, so my expectations differed somewhat from reality.

Ponownie zapraszam do fotograficznego zwiedzania Bratysławy. Z różnych powodów moje posty podróżnicze nie są chronologiczne, dzisiaj będzie podobnie. Naszym ostatnim punktem zwiedzania Bratysławy był Pałac Prezydencki. Właściwie to plac przed nim ("Hodžovo námestie") oraz jego frontowa część. Przed przyjazdem tutaj nie sprawdzałem w internecie jak dokładnie wygląda to miejsce, więc moje wyobrażenia trochę różniły się od rzeczywistości.

The Planet of Peace Fountain in the square in front of the palace is an interesting tourist attraction. This one turned out to be just as I expected.

Fontanna Planety Pokoju na placu przed pałacem jest ciekawą atrakcją turystyczną. To akurat było okazało się takie jak się spodziewałem.

A wider shot of Hodžovo Square with the fountain. It was no coincidence that people gathered in front of the palace, as the changing of the guard was taking place. We ended up at the end of the trail, which was still a nice addition to the tour.

Hodžovo námestie z fontanną w szerszym ujęciu. Ludzie zebrali się się przed pałacem nieprzypadkowo, ponieważ odbywała się zmiana warty. My trafiliśmy na jej końcową część, co i tak było fajnym dodatkiem do zwiedzania.

The palace was built in 1760 for Count Anton Grasalković. At that time, this area was outside the city walls. Today, buildings surround it, making it essentially the center of Bratislava. Personally, I expected a larger square and a more secluded location. Generally, I expected a larger space in front of the palace itself. This was likely due to my previous visit to the Belvedere Palace in Vienna.

Pałac powstał z 1760 roku dla hrabiego Antona Grasalkovicia. W tamtych czasach ten teren był poza murami miasta. Dziś dookoła są budynki i jest to właściwie centrum Bratysławy. Osobiście spodziewałem się większego placu i bardziej odizolowanego od miasta. Ogólnie spodziewałem się większej przestrzeni przed samym pałacem. Zapewne było to wynikiem wcześniejszego zwiedzania Belwederu w Wiedniu.

The palace is located north of the old town. It's only a few minutes' walk away. I think it's worth the visit.

Pałac położony jest na północ od starego miasta. Jest to zaledwie kilka minut spaceru. Uważam, że warto tu podejść.

We didn't have even a full day to explore the city, so we had to compromise and skip some places. One such place is the French-style gardens behind the palace. If you have more time and enjoy gardens, you should definitely visit them. The gardens are open to the public.

Na zwiedzanie tego miasta nie mieliśmy nawet jednego pełnego dnia, dlatego musieliśmy wybrać jakiś kompromis i z niektórych miejsc zrezygnować. Takim przykładowym miejscem są ogrody w stylu francuskim znajdujące się za pałacem. Jeśli ktoś ma więcej czasu na zwiedzanie i lubi ogrody, to powinien się tam przejść. Ogrody są ogólnodostępne.

However, the palace's interior can only be visited on specific days. According to the official website, the last such day was August 30th.

Natomiast zwiedzanie wnętrza pałacu jest tylko w określony dzień. Na oficjalne stronie ostatnim takim dniem był 30 sierpnia.

Once the changing of the guard was over and people dispersed, I was able to take a few shots without people in the photos. Just the way I like it. It's a nice change from the crowds in the old town center.

Kiedy zmiana warty się skończyła i ludzie się rozeszli, mogłem zrobić kilka ujęć bez ludzi na zdjęciach. Czyli tak jak lubię. Jest to miła odmiana od tłumów w centrum starego miasta.

The building has changed owners and hosts over the centuries. Since 1996, following a renovation, it has served as the residence of the President of Slovakia.

Budynek przez wieki zmieniał swoich właścicieli i gospodarzy. Od 1996 roku, po wcześniejszym remoncie, jest siedzibą prezydenta Słowacji.
