Photo Trip | Poland - St. Joseph's Church in Krzeszów

The Post-Cistercian Abbey in Krzeszów is a complex of many different buildings, among which the Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary undoubtedly stands out the most. I featured the basilica in one of my earlier posts. Now I’d like to show you some photos of another church located right next to the basilica I mentioned. From the outside, St. Joseph’s Church isn’t as impressive as the basilica, but it’s worth taking a look inside.

Pocysterskie Opactwo w Krzeszowie to kompleks wielu różnych budynków, z których niewątpliwie najbardziej wyróżnia się Bazylika Wniebowzięcia Najświętszej Maryi Panny. Bazylikę przedstawiałem w jednym z wcześniejszych postów. Teraz chciałbym przedstawić na zdjęciach inny kościół znajdujący się tuż obok wspomnianej bazyliki. Z zewnątrz kościół św. Józefa nie jest tak okazały jak wspomniana bazylika, jednak warto zajrzeć do jego środka.

The St. Joseph Brotherhood Church was built between 1690 and 1696 in the Early Baroque style to mark the 400th anniversary of the Krzeszów Abbey. Previously, a small Gothic church dedicated to St. Andrew the Apostle stood on this site, but it was demolished.

Kościół bracki pw. św. Józefa powstał w latach 1690-1696 w stylu wczesno barokowym na 400–lecie opactwa krzeszowskiego. Wcześniej w tym miejscu znajdował się mały gotycki kościół p.w. św. Andrzeja Apostoł, który został rozebrany.

The church's front facade is distinguished by three sculptures in niches.

Frontowa fasada kościoła wyróżnia się trzema rzeźbami we wnękach.

Unfortunately, I couldn't go inside; I could only admire the interior through the closed, barred door. Even through the bars, the interior was impressive thanks to the frescoes. This collection of paintings is the largest collection of frescoes north of the Alps in Europe.

Niestety do środka nie mogłem wejść, mogłem jedynie podziwiać wnętrze przez zamknięte drzwi z kraty. Nawet przez kraty wnętrze robiło wrażenie dzięki freskom. Ta kolekcja malowideł stanowi największy zbiór fresków na północ od Alp w Europie.

The abbot's residence is the building located to the left of the church. It was built between 1730 and 1734, underwent a thorough renovation between 1998 and 2002, and has served various purposes over the centuries.

Dom opata to budynek, który znajduje się po lewej stronie kościoła. Powstał w latach 1730–1734, przeszedł gruntowny remont w latach 1998–2002 i przez wieki pełnił różne funkcje.

Finally, three buildings in a single shot. Of course, you have to take into account the fact that this photo was taken with a wider angle. In reality, there isn’t such a big difference in size between the basilica and the other buildings.
The entire complex also includes other buildings (e.g., the Benedictine nuns’ convent) and structures. Some of them are located in different parts of Krzeszów, and I didn’t see them.

Na koniec trzy budynki na jednym ujęciu. Oczywiście należy uwzględnić tutaj perspektywę zrobienia zdjęcia na szerszym kącie. W rzeczywistości nie ma tak dużej różnicy w wielkości pomiędzy bazyliką a pozostałymi budynkami.
Cały kompleks zawiera również inne budynki (np. Klasztor sióstr benedyktynek) i obiekty. Część z nich znajduje się w różnych częściach Krzeszowa i ich nie widziałem.
