Lake Balaton in Hungary

Hello everyone!

Tihany on Lake Balaton was one of the places my friends and I visited on this year's Central European road trip. The lake was our destination, and the town was chosen because of its route.

Tihany nad jeziorem Balaton było jednym z miejsc, które odwiedziłem razem z przyjaciółmi podczas tegorocznej wycieczki samochodowej po Europie Środkowej. Celem było jezioro, natomiast miejscowość została wybrana ze względu na przebieg naszej trasy.

In the photo above, one of the popular resorts - Balatonfüred - can be seen in the background. This is the northern part of the lake, with a mountainous shore. It is also a wine region.

Na powyższym zdjęciu w tle widać jeden z popularnych kurortów - Balatonfüred. Jest to północna część jeziora z górzystym brzegiem. Jest to również region winiarski.

Lake Balaton is the largest lake in Central Europe, located in western Hungary. With a surface area of ​​600 km², a maximum length of 77 km, and a width of 14 km, its average depth is 3.3 m, with a maximum depth of 12.2 m (according to Wikipedia). Therefore, it is a relatively shallow lake.

Balaton to największe jezioro Europy Środkowej położone w zachodniej części Węgier. Powierzchnia to 600 km², maksymalna długość 77 km, szerokość 14 km. W przypadku głębokości to średnia wynosi 3,3 m, natomiast maksymalna 12,2 m (dane z Wikipedii). Jest to zatem dość płytkie jezioro.

There's a small, paid beach and a bar by the port. We didn't use the beach, but we did order a quick lunch at the bar.

Przy porcie jest mała płatna plaża oraz bar. Z plaży nie skorzystaliśmy, natomiast w barze zamówiliśmy szybki obiad.

Due to limited time, we had to choose between walking along the lakeshore or climbing the hill and exploring the town. We chose the second option.

Ze względu na ograniczony czas trzeba było wybrać pomiędzy spacerem brzegiem wzdłuż jeziora lub wejście na wzgórze i zwiedzić też miasteczko. Wybraliśmy drugą opcję.

Every now and then a ferry with crowds of tourists would arrive and depart. This is one of the most popular tourist destinations on Lake Balaton.

Co chwilę przypływał i odpływał jakiś prom z tłumem turystów. Jest to jedno z najbardziej popularnych turystycznie miejsc nad Balatonem.

The main resorts on the lake are Siófok, Keszthely and Balatonfüred.
