City Hall and Jasne Błonia square in Szczecin

Hello everyone!

For a long time I wanted to go to the center of Szczecin with a camera and take some photos there. There was a simple plan in my head, to go on Sunday morning so that there were few people and cars on the streets (usually the younger generation sleeps off Saturday evening, the older one is getting ready for church). After determining the time of the trip, it remained to choose a specific Sunday, when I will have time myself and the weather will be good for a walk and photos. The first place I decided to visit was the vicinity of the City Hall in Szczecin. After getting there, it turned out that I hadn't taken into account one more thing in the planning - the constant renovations and construction works in the city. Unfortunately, I did not take the photos I had planned and someday I will want to go there again for another photo session. Below, therefore, I present this place with the renovation of the building that takes place there.

Witam wszystkich!

Od dłuższego czasu chciałem pojechać do centrum Szczecina z aparatem i wykonać tam trochę zdjęć. W głowie powstał prosty plan, pojechać w niedzielę rano aby na ulicach było mało ludzi oraz samochodów (zazwyczaj młodsze pokolenie odsypia sobotni wieczór, starsze przygotowuje się do kościoła). Po ustaleniu pory wycieczki pozostało wybrać konkretną niedzielę, kiedy sam będę miał czas oraz pogoda będzie dobra do spaceru i zdjęć. Pierwszym miejscem, jakie postanowiłem odwiedzić były okolice Urzędu Miasta w Szczecinie. Po dotarciu na miejsce okazało się, że w planowaniu nie wziąłem pod uwagę jeszcze jednej rzeczy - ciągłych remontów i prac budowlanych w mieście. Niestety nie wykonałem zdjęć takich jakie sobie zaplanowałem i kiedyś jeszcze raz będę chciał tam pojechać na kolejną sesję zdjęciową. Poniżej zatem przedstawiam to miejsce z remontem budynku jaki się tam odbywa.

The building was built in the years 1924-1927, so it is almost 100 years old. The original green color of the façade was restored in 2012-2017. Because of this color, it was called the Spinach Palace. The photo shows the view of the right wing of the building (south-eastern part).

Gmach powstał w latach 1924-1927, ma więc niemal 100 lat. Pierwotny zielony kolor elewacji został przywrócony w latach 2012-2017. Ze względu na ten kolor nazywany był Szpinakowym Pałacem. Na zdjęciu widok na prawe skrzydło gmachu (część południowo-wschodnia).

There are two car passages between the main building and the wings. Above them on both sides are these four coats of arms.

Pomiędzy głównym budynkiem a skrzydłami znajdują się dwa przejazdy dla samochodów. Nad nimi po obu stronach znajdują się te cztery herby.

On the north side there is a wide greenery, i.e. Jasna Błonia im. John Paul II. Various events are organized on the square quite often, including parties on New Year's Eve (I think I was here three times at the end of the year).

Od strony północnej znajduje się szeroki zieleniec, czyli Jasne Błonia im. Jana Pawła II. Na placu dość często organizowane są różne imprezy, m.in odbywają się tutaj imprezy w Sylwestra (chyba trzykrotnie miałem okazję być tutaj na koniec roku).

The square was built at the same time as the building of the City Hall, i.e. almost 100 years ago.

Plac powstał w tym samym czasie co gmach Urzędu Miejskiego, czyli niemal 100 lat temu.

It is one of the nicest places for family walks in Szczecin.

Jest to jedno z fajniejszych miejsc do rodzinnych spacerów w Szczecinie.

On the sides of the square there are alleys with rows of London plane trees (Platanus acerifolia). It is the largest cluster of these trees in Poland.

Po bokach placu znajdują się aleje z rzędami platanów klonolistnych (Platanus acerifolia). Jest to największe skupisko tych drzew w Polsce.

At the northern end of this square is the Monument to the Deed of Poles from 1979 on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Rebirth of Poland. It is commonly known as the Three Eagles Monument. The eagles are meant to symbolize three generations:
Polish community in Szczecin before World War II,
Pioneers of post-war Szczecin,
The generation building the city.

Na północnym końcu tego placu znajduje się Pomnik Czynu Polaków z 1979 roku z okazji 35 rocznicy Odrodzenia Polski. Potocznie nazywany jest jako Pomnik Trzech Orłów. Orły mają symbolizować trzy pokolenia:
Polonii szczecińskiej sprzed II wojny światowej,
Pionierom powojennego Szczecina,
Pokoleniu rozbudowującemu miasto.
