El pasado 27 de diciembre, estuve caminando por las calles de mi ciudad, Maturín, en compañía de mi hermano mayor.
El gobernador había puesto estas decoraciones desde antes de diciembre y nosotros apenas tuvimos la suerte de poder apreciarlas hasta hace unos días, al menos antes de que las retiren.
No habíamos tenido la oportunidad de hacer esto antes, pues, lamentablemente aunque todo se vea muy bonito, hay otras áreas en las que la ciudad necesita atención y últimamente en este mes la inflación en mi país ha estado peor que nunca y por ende el pasaje del transporte público casi que aumenta cada día.
Es algo difícil porque vivimos lejos del centro y ya a ciertas horas de la tarde no hay transporte del centro hacia acá, es una misión volver de allá si se te hace tarde y aquí lo lindo era poder ver las luces navideñas de noche para apreciarlas mejor.
Pero eso no nos detuvo. Este día decidimos ir hacia adelante sin pensarlo mucho, el verdadero "Ahí resolvemos" jaja.
Es así como mi hermano y yo nos ponemos en marcha a las 6 PM. Por suerte logramos salir de acá rápido.
Era algo impresionante para mí estar a esas horas en el centro de la ciudad, veía por la ventana como algunas tiendas de ropa y locales de comida hacían aún vida estando abiertas y atendiendo.
Me hizo recordar un poco a los años anteriores, en 2016 todas las tiendas estaban abiertas hasta máximo las 4 PM, porque no había transporte y porque era peligroso mantenerse por ahí a más de esas horas.
Sentí un poco de felicidad, algo tan normal como eso puede darte un poco de emoción acá.
Llegamos a nuestro destino, La Catedral de Maturín.
Estaba decorada muy bonita e iluminada.

Last December 27, I was walking through the streets of my city, Maturin, in the company of my older brother.
The governor had put up these decorations since before December and we were just lucky enough to be able to appreciate them until a few days ago, at least before they were taken down.
We had not had the opportunity to do this before, because, unfortunately, although everything looks very nice, there are other areas in which the city needs attention and later this month the inflation in my country has been worse than ever and therefore the public transportation fare almost increases every day.
It is something difficult because we live far from downtown and at certain hours of the afternoon there is no transportation from downtown to here, it is a mission to return from there if it gets late and here the nice thing was to see the Christmas lights at night to appreciate them better.
But that didn't stop us. This day we decided to go ahead without thinking too much, the real "Meh, there we solve" haha.
That's how my brother and I set off at 6 PM. Luckily we managed to get out of there quickly.
It was something impressive for me to be in those hours in the center of the city, I could see through the window how some clothing stores and food places were still alive being open and attending.
It reminded me of a few previous years, in 2016 all the stores were open until 4 PM at the latest, because there was no transportation and because it was dangerous to stay out there past those hours.
I felt a bit of happiness, something as normal as that can give you a bit of excitement here.
We arrived at our destination, the Cathedral of Maturin. It was beautifully decorated and illuminated.
Nos sorprendimos por la cantidad de gente que había al rededor, algunos sentados conversando y apreciando el ambiente, otros tomándose fotos con sus familiares y amigos.
Había varios puestos de comida, como perros calientes, cotufas (palomitas de maíz o como les digan en sus países) algodón de azúcar y helado.
Decidimos ir por un helado, no somos muy amantes del dulce como para torturarnos con algodón de azúcar, así que el helado estaría bien.
Después de unos cuantos minutos en la fila de la heladería, logramos el objetivo.
We were surprised by the number of people around, some sitting around chatting and appreciating the atmosphere, others taking pictures with their family and friends.
There were several food stands, such as hot dogs, cotufas (popcorn or whatever they call them in their countries) cotton candy, and ice cream.
We decided to go for ice cream, we do not have too much of a sweet tooth to torture ourselves with cotton candy, so the ice cream would be fine.
After a few minutes in line at the ice cream parlor, we achieved our goal.
Estaba muy bueno, pedí el sabor "Latte-Oreo" y mi hermano "Choco-Marquesa" muy ricos ambos.
Nos sentamos por ahí a comer el helado mientras conversábamos y coincidíamos en que la ciudad estaba teniendo un poco más de vida en comparación con años anteriores.
It was very good, I ordered the "Latte-Oreo" and my brother's "Choco-Marquesa" flavor, both very tasty.
We sat around eating ice cream while we talked and agreed that the city was having a little more life compared to previous years.

Luego caminamos un poco para apreciar mejor las diferentes decoraciones. No solo habían iluminado la Catedral, sino también sus alrededores y algunas plazas de la ciudad que veríamos más adelante.
Después de un rato de tomar fotos y sentirnos satisfechos con todo. Decidimos volver caminando para ver si corríamos con suerte de tomar un autobús, aunque ya era algo tarde.
En el camino nos detuvimos en algunas plazas para tomar fotos, es una lástima que mi teléfono no pueda capturar bien las luces para que puedan apreciarlas mejor. Realmente todo estaba muy bonito.
Then we walked around a bit to better appreciate the different decorations. Not only had they illuminated the Cathedral, but also its surroundings and some of the city squares that we would see later.
After a while of taking pictures and feeling satisfied with everything. We decided to walk back to see if we were lucky enough to catch a bus, although it was already late.
On the way we stopped in some squares to take pictures, it's a pity that my phone can't capture the lights well so you can appreciate them better. Everything was really beautiful.

Nuestros pies dolían un poco por el tiempo que estuvimos de pie y caminando, pero valió la pena.
Estuvimos un rato esperando por un autobús, pero ya no pasaban, por suerte un carro pasó diciendo que se dirigía hacia nuestro destino. Así que es así como terminamos llegando a nuestro hogar a las casi 10 PM. Si le cuentan esto a la Rosy del 2016 jamás se lo creería.
Fue un día muy bonito. A veces solo debes decir "¿Sabes qué? no importa, ya veremos..." y hacer las cosas sin tantos rodeos.
Si les soy totalmente honesta, aunque fue algo bonito ver mi ciudad mejor que años anteriores, no deja de hacerme ruido que mientras se enfocan en hacer lindas las plazas y ciertos lugares, otros sitios como el hospital y los centros de salud pública se están cayendo a pedazos.
Espero el gobernador ponga su atención en esto de la misma manera.
Our feet were a little sore from the time we were standing and walking, but it was worth it.
We waited for a while for a bus, but they were no longer passing by, luckily a car passed by saying it was heading towards our destination. So that's how we ended up arriving home at almost 10 PM. If you tell this to the Rosy of 2016 she would never believe it.
It was a very nice day. Sometimes you just have to say "You know what, never mind, we'll see..." and do things without so much beating around the bush.
If I'm being totally honest, although it was nice to see my city better than in previous years, it still makes me wonder that while they focus on making the plazas and certain places pretty, other places like the hospital and public health centers are falling apart.
I hope the governor will pay attention to this in the same way.

Hola rosy, que bueno que disfrutaste la salida, la catedral está bien bonita y las plazas. También tienes razón, a veces no hay que pensarlo mucho y hacer las cosas, ya que a veces nos limitamos porque decimos que no se puede, pero si se puede, saludos.
