Wednesday's walk to a unique urban center in Cuba [EN-ES]

Hello, dear #wednesdaywalk friends!

It's been a long time since my last walk through this beautiful community, and today I return with great pleasure, motivated by the initiative of our friend @tattoodjay, who always invites us to perpetuate and share these days that become significant each week.

Personally, I confess that Wednesdays seem to me to be dichotomous, antagonistic, and even enigmatic. Why? I have no idea. But I've decided to enjoy them anyway, because that's how every moment of life should be: enjoyable.

Today, I want you to join me on a morning walk through the central plaza of Santa Clara, in the province of Villa Clara, Cuba. This is where I live.

Leoncio Vidal Park, the name given by the official authorities to what the people simply call "The Park," has become the urban center where all the city's life converges. It's very rare for a resident not to walk across its cobblestones at some point during the day, or at least during the week, due to its geographical location and typographical layout.

Added to this is the fact that its location includes the main cultural institutions, recreational centers, grocery stores, and other stores in its surroundings, as well as the occasional bank, where it is common to find crowds of people in their daily struggle to obtain a meager portion of their symbolic money to survive on a daily basis.

Inside, a series of tents have been set up where the province's leading artisans and entrepreneurs gather, offering their products. Mainly clothing, footwear, apparel, miscellaneous items, and the occasional item that might be useful or attractive for the home or for visiting tourists.

Taking a panoramic look at the surroundings, in addition to the custom of cleaning the grounds with pressure water every dawn, we can appreciate the diversity that its architectural design has presented us throughout its more than 300 years of history. Neoclassical, colonial, eclectic, and modern buildings manage, in a way that is inexplicable to me, to harmonize and not be at all distracting when viewed as a whole, although I am still distressed by the contrast that remains between those ruined and abandoned buildings that try to persist alongside the rest.

The Provincial Library, formerly the Government Palace, boasts countless valuable details in its design. For me, the most notable are the decoration of the Concert Hall and a mural displayed for all to see in the General Hall, which was donated by Zayda del Río, a very important painter of international renown, fortunately originating from our lands.

No visitor or passerby will miss the figures of Marta Abreu on the south side, safeguarding her legacy as a benefactor of the city. On the north side, the fountain with the Niño de La Bota (Booty Child), that iconic figure that every child longs to touch, like someone yearning to wake up and join in the mischievous play throughout the square.

The sun is always a companion at every step, although the lushness of its trees, even when their foliage is changing, allows us to refresh ourselves under its shade for the pleasure of all, allowing us to continue our journey toward other horizons, as I will do in due time and will undoubtedly share with you.

For now, receive a big hug of light!

Thank you very much for your visit!

Best regards @roswelborges
