To Santiago de Cuba on foot! [EN-ES]

Hello world travelers!
Have you ever heard the song that says: "To Santiago on foot?" Yes, we're walking to Santiago to get to know it a little bit on this trip!
I recently told you about the celebration of the first 510 years since the founding of Santiago de Cuba, one of the first cities founded on the island where I live, Cuba. How about we walk through its streets and mingle with some of the festivities that took place as part of the living legacy of its traditions?

Founded in 1515 by the Spanish conquistador Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar, Santiago de Cuba is known as the Hero City, the Hot Land, or the Capital of the Caribbean. The Hot Land, more than for its warm eastern climate, is the birthplace of Cuban Son, a land of iconic festivals such as the Festival del Caribe, the Fiesta del Fuego, and the famous carnivals that swept across the entire route known as La Trocha, where various cultural traditions enriching the nation's heritage are still preserved.

It boasts diverse natural and architectural beauties, ranging from the Sierra Maestra Mountains and La Gran Piedra, from where the Haitian coast can be seen; streets lined with perfectly preserved colonial buildings, including the birthplace of José María Heredia, one of the nation's foremost poets; the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Charity of Cobre, a site of worship dedicated to Cuba's patron saint and visited by the last three Popes of the Catholic Church; the first coffee plantations in southeastern Cuba; and even the San Pedro de la Roca del Morro Castle. These last two sites have been declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, along with the French Tomb "La Caridad de Oriente," a symbol of Franco-Haitian cultural heritage and Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

Santiago de Cuba transcends its inhabitants, famous for being excellent hosts. Santiago is music, trova, son, conga, jazz; it is Pepe Sánchez, Ñico Saquito, Sindo Garay, and Compay Segundo; it is Cuban rum, coffee... Yes, but it is also the smile on the faces of its residents, it is open arms to those who visit, it is warmth and truly authentic human kindness.

With these photographs, with no other intention than to show its streets, different views of those who have walked its avenues, the bay, some everyday site, or part of the Solemn Eucharist and blessing of the city, which took place this week in the Cathedral of Santiago de Cuba and was presided over by Monsignor Dionisio García Ibáñez, as a still-present traditional element, may this trip serve as a gift to all the people of Santiago who live here, and especially to those beings of light who belong to the beautiful WhatsApp group Hive Santiago de Cuba who allowed me to discover #Hive and welcomed me with open arms to help me understand all its wonder. I won't mention names so I don't miss any. To all, congratulations!
Don't forget to smile!
To all, a hug of light!

¡No olviden sonreír!
A todos, ¡un abrazo de luz!

Such a great photo story – and Kuba is absolutely wonderful. I really enjoy following your articles and photo updates.
Hello!
How is this Sunday going for the children and teenagers?
Have you and your husband been able to have fun too?
You've touched me with your words, and I truly appreciate it!
I'm glad you perceive this work this way and enjoy it this way!
Thank you so much!
A big Sunday hug!
Hello dear Roswel! 😊
Thank you so much for your beautiful words — they truly warmed my heart this Sunday! 💛
The kids are having a great time (with just the right amount of chaos to keep things interesting 😄), and yes — my husband and I managed to relax a little too, which feels like a small miracle with four children! 😅
The teenagers are currently munching on fresh waffles under a tent, because we’ve had a bit of rain today — so we turned it into a cozy little sweet picnic under shelter. 🌧️🧇
It means a lot that my words touched you. Your journey through Cuba is truly inspiring — your photos and reflections bring a sense of peace and wonder.
Sending a big Sunday hug from all of us! 🌞💫
Take care and keep sharing your beautiful perspective with the world!
It's fantastic that you're able to spend quality time with your husband and let the kids enjoy their little bit of necessary chaos!
Big hugs to everyone!

Hello!
I'm so pleased and proud that you receive my work this way, even though I didn't focus on the quality of the photos. I wanted each photo to be imperfect to show an imperfectly perfect reality.
Please accept a big, grateful hug!
Yes, but the photo you have shared also looks very beautiful of natural places

Happy Sunday!
You are very welcome @roswelborges! it was well deserved. ☀️
We are already looking forward to reading more about your adventures!
¡Hola!
