I'm not sure if I will be able to shoot surf anymore

I've got a very sore shoulder. I realized a few days after waking up feeling pretty bad that it's the third time in about 15 years. The last time was 6 years ago. I have always hand held my camera with a telephoto zoom because I love moving around and getting lots of angles. My shoulder pain has made sleeping very difficult. I would rather sleep comfortably than risk carrying a camera again. Looking through some surf shots I really really wish I could shoot this winter. It might be possible with a tripod but I would still have to carry it around and set it up...
