Eyes that speak

“It is not an act of kindness to treat animals respectfully. It is an act of justice.” - Tom Regan

I don't know how people will see this, but I think that you can tell a lot about a person by just having a glimpse at how they treat animals.

Even pesky little pests have their right to live; except mosquitoes though, mosquitoes should be burnt to death and sent to rot in hell lol. And I'm not just talking about domestic animals and cute cats and dogs, but I mean any sort of animal; snakes and crocodiles included.

Yes, you won't go that far to pet a snake, you'll maintain your distance for sure. But, we must respect their habitat and existence, and let them live in peace; even the "ugly" ole reptiles have their right to the equity of land and life. Now, if they're causing harm, then that's a whole different topic, and writeup I guess.

We are humans, the "superior kind" and that's a fact. Yet, you must not be prejudiced. Because we are the superior kind, our duty should be to protect the animal kingdom, and the weaker kind, while also preserving as much of mother nature and its inhabitants.

We can make money and hunt for food, and we can communicate properly; animals can't. Well, not to us at least. Even though some of them are as smart as a 3-year-old baby, they still can't express their feelings, at least not as concisely as us.

Yet, some animals and their eyes alone tell a thousand stories, and if you look close enough, you'll know exactly how they feel.

You don't have to go out of your way to feed and take care of these animals if you dislike them or are afraid, that's understandable. Just don't cause harm to these creatures. Because those who harm animals and target the weak and timid, they're simply not human, they're the lowest scum on planet Earth.

I don't know if I've saved a life or not. I can't remember any humans telling me so, but I have taken care of countless stray animals. Some when they were still a few days to a few months old. Dogs, cats, birds, chickens, and even a damn goat, I've put in the time to take care of and shelter these animals, since I was a kid.

I got it from my father. He loves animals, mostly dogs; everyone on his side of the family does actually. And even though we've never really had a dog for long, he likes to take care of the stray dogs that live in our neighborhood.

Actually, we did have a dog, we found him as a pup on the streets, over a decade ago. The little guy was named Tommy, which is quite a common name for dogs in this region. We trained him, fed him well, and he grew up to be one solid dog. He acted as a guard dog and lived downstairs in our garage. We'd go for regular walks, my father would shower him and feed him all by himself. Alas, when he was about 3 to 4 months old, one day we came downstairs to find him absent from his little spot.

To this day, we don't know what happened to him, but everyone says that he was taken away, stolen. And I guess it makes sense. Even though he was a stray dog, he definitely was a smart one; we trained him to be that way. So, I guess someone took him to sell him off for a few hundred bucks, which is probably like $5 or $10 USD now. That's the usual rate for local stray animals here. Sadly, all this stealing and selling is quite common here. Cats and dogs get stolen and then sold for chump change all the time.

After that day we never really thought of getting another pet, not a dog at least. We didn't have the guts.

My in-laws currently have a lot of cats. It all started about 2 years ago when my wife got news of a stray cat that was up for adoption. She's always wanted a cat. So, she came to me for permission, and I didn't deny her request. Now, after almost 2 years, that one cat has mothered four kittens, and two of those kittens had babies of their own. (One of them you're seeing above)

They did end up giving most of the cats away, and some of the kittens didn't survive during their infancy.

To this day, since my childhood, I still feed the stray dogs in our area almost daily. Whenever they come, they have leftovers or at least a packet of biscuits ready for them. Fortunately, the area I live in, people here take care of all the stray animals and feed them regularly. Which is certainly a good sign. The culture of hating these "dumb and voiceless" souls is slowly changing for the better, but there's still a long way to go.

Yet, if someone has to do it, then it's us, the so-called "superior" beings...

Your point is very valid. We should treat animals well because even they have feelings. They can feel pain or feel happy. Also how a person treats animals tells a whole lot about the type of person he is. Thanks for writing and have a great weekend.

It's a big indicator for me, to simply decide if it is a good or bad person I'm dealing with.

I love the fact that you’re advising us not to cause harm to animals as long as they are not trying to do the same too
But what about animals that are harmful and you are scared that they will harm you?

You can maintain distance; if you can't, then you can catch them and let them out elsewhere. Now, if those options are available, and your life is in danger, then you do what's best for your survival; even if you have to kill.

Survival and self-defense come first. Always!
