Unearthing Treasures: The Significance of Silver Coins.
Discovering hidden treasures can be an exhilarating experience, especially when they hold historical and cultural significance. Recently, while rummaging through my belongings, I stumbled upon a collection of silver coins that left me intrigued.
These coins not only showcased intricate designs but also depicted various deities, historical figures, and important symbols. Among the silver coins I found, 18 of them displayed the revered deities, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh on one side. These deities hold immense importance in Hindu Culture, symbolizing wealth, prosperity, and auspicious beginnings. The kumkum placed on depiction of these deities on the coins suggests that they were likely used during religious ceremonies, weddings, or other significant events.
Another intriguing side of these 18 coins, featured a depiction of name of a wedding couple and their date of marriage, or the Om Shri sign, or the Swastik symbol. These coins that bear specific years, such as 1990, 1991, 1992, 1995, 1998, and 2014 offer a glimpse into the past. They serve as a reminder of the sacred union of marriage and the auspiciousness associated with it in Indian Culture. The presence of these coins suggests that they were possibly gifted to newlyweds or used in wedding rituals as a symbol of blessings and good fortune.
In addition to the aforementioned silver coins, I also discovered five, one rupee coins. These coins minted in 1878, 1879, 1884, and 1909 depict notable figures such as King and Emperor Edward VII, or Empress Victoria. These coins provide a link to colonial India and the reign of British monarchs. They serve as a reminder of India’s complex history, marked by the struggle for independence and the subsequent formation of a sovereign nation.
The presence of these silver coins offer a tangible link to our ancestors and serve as a reminder of our rich cultural heritage. As such, it is crucial to safeguard these artifacts and ensure their proper preservation for future generations.

Welcome to #silvergoldstackers,
A lovely cultural display of Indian Silver @riyaverma123 , I agree that it's important to preserve not only wealth but history and culture as well so we could pass it on to the next generation. Do you also have some pieces from the Mughal Empire too?
Thank you, my grandfather might have preserved some coins, if I stumbled upon them, I'll absolutely share them in the upcoming blogs.
