Wonderful sulptures in my school
Today is Wednesday and i do have just one lecture to attend which commences from 8am to 10am. After that, no lecture again. So I used the remaining hours of the day to take a little walk around our school before going home.
My target was Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts. That's the department known for sculpture. Getting there, I saw a lot of thrilling sculptures, each one telling its own unique story.
Sculptures are not just objects made from stone, clay, or metal, they are silent storytellers. Every curve, shape, and detail is carefully crafted to express an idea, a memory, or a piece of culture. Whether it's a human figure, an abstract design, or a scene from daily life, a sculpture speaks without using words.
Most of the sculptures I found today reflected Africa and its rich way of life. From depictions of a town cryer, traditional dance to scenes of bound slave with chain from the neck down to his legs, sitting helplessly. Men battling to put one down in a fight, a woman carrying her dead twin babies, crying. Men playing man power game, a musician singing with mic, an elephant, two chiefs fight for one throne, a warrior and then a Man dancing. Each sculpture captured something deeply familiar and meaningful. It felt like walking through a quiet museum of African history, art, and everyday life, right there on campus.
All these sculptures are just so wonderful. They're all pleasing to the eyes and though some depicts sad moment and some happy moments, i find delight in watching all of them. I'm glad I did that tour, it's made my day.
