Yamaha Royal Star (rare sighting for me)

Greetings friends!

So, this past Saturday guess what I came across- that’s right! A freaking Yamaha Royal Star! And a Classic Tour at that!!!

I know most people don’t know what this is or why its so special- but I don’t care cause I know it and love it!

So, I spotted this lovely speciman and decided to try my hand at taking some actually good photos!

All photos were taken outside Cantina Sportsmans Bar, the place I work at as a casual!

These photos were also taken with my iPhone in portrait mode!

So what’s so special about the Yamaha Royal Star? Well! You see, a while ago Yamaha came out with their answer to Honda’s Magna- which was a cruiser with their LEGENDARY VFR 750 V4 in it. Of course the engine was tuned differntly and oh man- did it sound EPIC.

At the time Yamaha hadn’t made any V4’s yet- or had anyone else. But! In a stroke of pure madness as befitting the times, Yamaha came out with their V-Max 1200!

The V-Max was essentially a V4 classic bike with a RAM air system, “V-Boost” as they called it, which means that at a certain point the motor would get a “boost” of power. It wasn’t anything like Honda’s VTEC or a Turbo Charger, but it was still insane!

Not too long into production, Yamaha actually decided to bore out their V-Max motor to a 1300 and eventually adding fuel injection, and guess where that went?

Correct! Into the Royal Star!

Hence the 4 cannons coming out of this things rear 😁

Everyone knows what a Harley/literally any normal V2 sounds like.

However.

Most people compare the sound of the Royal Star to that of an AC-Cobra.
And, having heard both in person, I can confirm that it does indeed!

The Yamaha Royal Star is a motorcycle I admire and adore for its good looks, comfortable ride and beautiful voice. And to this day it stands as one of the only V4 cruisers in existence!

(We don’t talk about the Ducati Diavel V4, that thing doesn’t know wtf it is)

But anyway, that ramble over I hope y’all enjoyed the photos and I’ll see y’all next time!!!

Hmmmm, a V-Max on steroids. Nice ! 😁

I can understand why they never bought it to the market here in the UK, though. The V-Max itself had a mixed reputation - great looks, blistering acceleration and top speed, but brakes and handling that just weren't good enough at handling the winding British roads and poor road surfaces.

But then our roads were probably laid down by a drunken farmer staggering home from the pub sometime around the Neolithic period.....
