Testing my new lens: Carl Zeiss 80/2.8 for the #monomad challenge
Good evening, black and white photography lovers.
It’s been a while since I last shared some cycling photography... but I recently challenged myself to attend a time trial event held a few days ago. To be honest, my main goal wasn't even to create a post for this platform, but rather to test my new lens: the Carl Zeiss Biometar 80mm f/2.8.
This lens is quite a challenge to adapt to my Canon 5D Mark III, considering it has a Pentacon mount and my camera is Canon EF. I had to track down a very specific adapter that is extremely hard to find here in Cuba, but I finally have it in my hands.
I took several lenses to the event: a Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6, a Praktica 135mm f/2.8 (a total beast for this kind of work, as you’ll see in future posts), and this new lens whose results I’m sharing today. Technically speaking, it was a consistently cloudy day with intermittent rain, so I had to push my ISO mostly to 320 or 400. I tried to keep the lenses as wide open as possible... and then, the game began.
I love this type of photography. I love witnessing the athletes' effort and making it my own—because shooting this kind of action with manual lenses is no easy feat. Today’s photos were taken just moments before the start of the race, as I don’t yet master this lens well enough to use it for high-speed action during the event itself.
I hope you enjoy them.

Saw a few of these listed online for quite cheap recently. Was tempted to look into them a bit more once I upgrade the body. Quite like the bokeh!
