Greetings, friends who love black and white photography.
When I go out to photograph the street I have a method that, so far, has worked quite well for me: I play dumb when I feel inquisitive stares. It's more common than it seems. Sometimes it's simple curiosity on the part of my unwitting models; other times, there's an unspoken but felt annoyance. Only once, among so many outings, a gentleman asked me not to take pictures of him. He was very kind, and his reason, totally understandable. I deleted it instantly.
When I see a scene that catches my eye, I usually take two or three quick shots and carry on as if nothing had happened. And then, when I review the images at home, I'm met with looks of surprise or disapproval that I didn't quite notice at the time. That's why I think you always have to be tactful when photographing in the street. Intuition and respect go hand in hand.

Cuando salgo a fotografiar la calle tengo un método que, hasta ahora, me ha funcionado bastante bien: hacerme el tonto cuando siento miradas inquisitivas. Es más común de lo que parece. A veces es simple curiosidad de mis modelos involuntarios; otras, se nota una molestia que no se dice pero se siente. Solo una vez, entre tantas salidas, un señor me pidió que no le hiciera fotos. Fue muy amable, y su razón, totalmente comprensible. La borré al instante.
Cuando veo una escena que me llama la atención, suelo hacer dos o tres disparos rápidos y seguir como si nada. Y luego, al revisar las imágenes en casa, me encuentro con miradas de sorpresa o desaprobación que no noté del todo en el momento. Por eso creo que siempre hay que tener cierto tacto al fotografiar en la calle. La intuición y el respeto van de la mano.
