Why the black borders?

Something that surprised me about film photography practiced by some friends is the habit of scanning or printing images while showing the edges of the negative. Beyond the aesthetic appeal of that black frame, this decision has a very technical intention: to prove that the final framing is exactly the same as the one the photographer captured at the moment of shooting.

The idea is simple yet powerful: to think carefully about the photograph before taking it, so the composition remains faithful to what was seen through the viewfinder, rather than being the result of cropping during editing or printing.

It is quite a purist approach and, as a composition exercise, it is excellent. It forces you to have a clear intention before pressing the shutter, to previsualize the image, measure, find distances, frame, decide parameters, and only then take the shot.

Of course, not every photo turns out the way you imagined, but that is also part of the magic. There is something truly special about discovering the results after development.

Today I am sharing the results from my second Agfa roll. These forgotten gems are a true treasure and deliver spectacular results. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

¿Por qué los bordes negros?

Algo que me sorprendió de la fotografía en carrete que practican algunos amigos es el hábito de escanear o imprimir las imágenes mostrando los bordes del negativo. Más allá de la estética que aporta ese marco negro, esta decisión tiene una intención muy técnica: demostrar que el encuadre final es exactamente el mismo que el fotógrafo realizó en el momento de disparar.

La idea es simple pero poderosa: pensar bien la fotografía antes de tomarla, para que la composición sea fiel a lo que se vio a través del visor, y no el resultado de un recorte posterior en edición o impresión.

Es un enfoque bastante purista y, como ejercicio de composición, resulta excelente. Te obliga a tener una intención clara antes de disparar, a previsualizar la imagen, medir, buscar distancias, encuadrar, decidir parámetros y solo entonces presionar el obturador.

Por supuesto, no todas las fotos quedan como las imaginaste, pero eso también forma parte de la magia. Hay algo muy especial en descubrir los resultados después del revelado.

Hoy les comparto los resultados del segundo carrete Agfa. Estas joyas olvidadas son un verdadero tesoro y ofrecen resultados espectaculares. Espero que las disfruten tanto como yo.
