Greetings hivers.

In a town on the outskirts of the city there are the ruins of a sugar mill that was dismantled decades ago. Once operated by an American company, some traces of that era of prosperity can still be seen today.

Old houses with the classic look of that time and the occupation of spaces from the former mill to improvise homes with the wood and structures that still remain.

I must say there is a strange charm in that duality, in those new inhabitants who have taken advantage of the remains of those gigantic structures to create small homes.

Walking through that place feels like moving through two different times at once. The silence of the ruins contrasts with the everyday life of the families who now inhabit those spaces. Between rusty metal, collapsed walls and old columns, a community still breathes and resists, giving a new meaning to what was once a symbol of prosperity.

En un pueblo a las afueras de la ciudad existen las ruinas de un central azucarero que fue desmantelado hace décadas. Antaño operado por una compañía norteamericana, aún se pueden observar algunas señales de aquella época de esplendor.

Antiguas viviendas con el aspecto clásico de esos años y la ocupación de espacios del viejo central para improvisar hogares con las maderas y estructuras que todavía permanecen en pie.

Debo decir que tiene un encanto extraño esa dualidad, esa nueva población que ha aprovechado los restos de aquellas estructuras gigantescas para crear pequeñas casas.

Caminar por allí es como recorrer dos tiempos al mismo tiempo. El silencio de las ruinas contrasta con la vida cotidiana de las familias que hoy habitan esos espacios. Entre hierros oxidados, paredes derruidas y viejas columnas todavía late una comunidad que resiste y le da un nuevo significado a lo que una vez fue símbolo de prosperidad.
