Hello Hivers. 🤗

A few days ago, I took out one of my favorite lenses for portraits again: an old Helios M 44-2, a piece of Soviet glass that lets the light pass through with an unmatched charm.

I don’t really know why I’m so drawn to old optics. Decades of research and development, millions of dollars, and countless hours of brilliant engineers striving for perfection… and yet, many photographers like me find beauty in the unique imperfections of the analog world. I don’t think it’s nostalgia — some gear truly has soul and responds in a way that feels unique, authentic.

Here I leave you a small sample of portraits made with this beautiful old lens. I hope you like them as much as I do, or at least enjoy appreciating the results.

Hace unos días volví a sacar uno de mis lentes favoritos para retratos: un anciano Helios M 44-2, un pedazo de vidrio soviético que deja pasar la luz con un encanto inigualable.

No sé por qué me atraen tanto las ópticas viejas. Décadas de desarrollo e investigación, millones de dólares e incontables horas de trabajo de brillantes ingenieros buscando la perfección… y aun así, muchos fotógrafos como yo encontramos la belleza en las imperfecciones de lo analógico. No creo que sea nostalgia: es que algunos equipos realmente tienen alma y responden de una forma única, auténtica.

Aquí les dejo una breve muestra de retratos hechos con este precioso anciano. Espero que les gusten tanto como a mí, o al menos disfruten apreciar los resultados.
