Greetings, Hivers.

A few days ago, during a composition exercise, a group of friends and I went out to shoot and present our results without cropping, composing directly in camera and solving compositional challenges in the moment. I have to say it was quite a challenge. Being used to shooting first and selecting later on a monitor, this exercise felt demanding and very honest.

For this kind of exercise, contemplation becomes essential, observing carefully and building the photograph in the mind before pressing the shutter. Achieving good results this way is fundamental, especially when working with film, where editing afterward is limited or simply not an option. It pushed me back into a mindset I hadn’t experienced in years, more intentional, more present with each frame.

Here are some of the results, a small selection from that outing. In another post, I will share a few shots I took that same day using an expired roll of film.

Hace unos días, en un ejercicio de composición, salimos un grupo de amigos a fotografiar y mostrar los resultados sin recortar la imagen, componiendo directamente en cámara y resolviendo los problemas de composición en el momento. Debo decir que fue todo un reto. Acostumbrado a fotografiar primero y escoger después en un monitor, este ejercicio se sintió exigente y muy honesto.

Para este tipo de ejercicios la contemplación es fundamental, observar con atención y construir la fotografía en la mente antes de dispararla. Lograr buenos resultados así es fundamental, especialmente al trabajar con carrete, donde editar después es limitado o simplemente no es posible. Me obligó a volver a una forma de fotografiar que hacía años no experimentaba, más intencional, más presente en cada encuadre.

Aquí están algunos resultados, una pequeña selección de toda la salida. En otro post compartiré algunas fotos que hice ese mismo día con un carrete caducado.
