Praying, Cubans walk through the streets, following the Virgin with candles, rosaries, and hopes for health and better times. Religious faith is a powerful and moving phenomenon. Thousands of people gather for the processions organized by the church once a year, when the saint leaves the temple to meet the people in their everyday reality.

Cubans have always been a syncretic and deeply spiritual people. Many are devoted believers. They place their faith in their Virgin or their saint with sincerity and strength, asking them to heal their lives and protect those they love.

Today I bring you a small visual sample of this religious manifestation that takes place in Havana and throughout the entire country.

Rezando, los cubanos caminan por las calles, siguiendo a la Virgen con velas, rosarios y esperanzas de salud y tiempos mejores. La fe religiosa es un fenómeno poderoso y conmovedor. Miles de personas se reúnen para las procesiones que realiza la iglesia una vez al año, cuando el santo sale del templo para encontrarse con la gente en su realidad cotidiana.

Los cubanos siempre hemos sido un pueblo sincrético y profundamente espiritual. Muchos son devotos creyentes. Depositan su fe en su Virgen o en su santo con sinceridad y fuerza, pidiéndoles que sanen sus vidas y protejan a quienes aman.

Hoy les traigo una pequeña muestra visual de esta manifestación religiosa que se vive en La Habana y en todo el país.
