Hello Black and white community,

I think that where we can see the greatest contrast between people is undoubtedly in Old Havana. In other neighborhoods you usually find a more or less uniform purchasing level; some have more, others less, but within a similar range. However, in Old Havana that does not seem to be the case.

There, people with high purchasing power cohabit with others with very limited resources, and that is clearly reflected in the streets. From musicians trying to earn a living to elderly people asking for help from passersby, contrasting sharply with tourists -who are abundant- and other visitors who take the opportunity to stroll and enjoy the place.

In these photos I try to show you just what I am telling you, without entering into much debate. Just to record the reality that is lived today in the streets of Old Havana.

Hola comunidad Blanco y Negro,

Yo creo que donde más contraste podemos ver entre las personas es, sin duda, en La Habana Vieja. En otros barrios sueles encontrar un nivel adquisitivo más o menos uniforme; algunos tienen más, otros menos, pero dentro de un rango similar. Sin embargo, en La Habana Vieja eso no parece ocurrir.

Allí cohabitan personas con alto poder adquisitivo junto a otras con recursos muy limitados, y eso se refleja claramente en las calles. Desde músicos que intentan ganarse el jornal hasta ancianos que piden ayuda a los transeúntes, contrastando fuertemente con los turistas —que son abundantes— y otros visitantes que aprovechan para pasear y disfrutar del lugar.

En estas fotos trato de mostrarles justamente eso que les comento, sin entrar en mucho debate. Solo registrar la realidad que se vive hoy en las calles de La Habana Vieja.
