Good morning, hivers. How are you today?

When a group of talented friends come together to create, the result can only be good. Safari Habana is an event organized by @abelfotografia that brings together lovers of portrait photography —both photographers and models— to do what we love most: photography.

Experience doesn’t really matter, because the atmosphere of camaraderie that fills the place makes everything flow naturally. Professionals, enthusiasts, and beginners share space, ideas, and creativity. The same goes for the models: some are just starting out, while others already have experience posing.

The event takes place once a month, always in iconic locations around Havana, places chosen for their charm and their potential for beautiful portraits. Each model goes through different spots and photographers, turning every session into a new interpretation of the same moment. The result: a diverse collection of images, personal and beautiful, each one reflecting the photographer’s own style.

Participating was a wonderful experience. I don’t usually do portraits, but stepping out of my comfort zone was both challenging and a great opportunity to explore new ways of expression beyond street photography.

Today, I bring you,as a kind of visual report and in my favorite style, my personal vision of the event. In future posts, I’ll share the portraits I made of some of the models who participated.

I can only thank Abel for keeping the spirit of the Safari alive for so many years. I’m sure I’ll attend every edition I can.

Buenos días, hivers. ¿Cómo están hoy?

Cuando un grupo de amigos talentosos se reúne para crear, el resultado solo puede ser bueno. Safari Habana es un evento organizado por @abelfotografia que convoca a amantes de la fotografía de retrato, tanto fotógrafos como modelos, para hacer lo que más nos apasiona: fotografiar.

La experiencia no importa demasiado, porque el ambiente de camaradería que se respira hace que todo fluya de manera natural. Profesionales, aficionados y principiantes comparten espacio, ideas y creatividad. Lo mismo sucede con los modelos: algunos se inician en la actividad, mientras otros ya tienen experiencia posando.

El evento se realiza una vez al mes, siempre en lugares emblemáticos de La Habana, elegidos por su encanto visual y su potencial para retratos únicos. Cada modelo pasa por diferentes locaciones y fotógrafos, convirtiendo cada sesión en una interpretación distinta del mismo momento. El resultado: una colección de imágenes variadas, personales y bellas, al estilo propio de cada autor.

Participar fue una experiencia maravillosa. No suelo hacer retratos habitualmente, pero salir de mi zona de confort fue retador y a la vez una gran oportunidad para explorar nuevas formas de expresión más allá de la fotografía callejera.

Hoy les comparto, a modo de reportaje y desde mi estilo personal, mi visión del evento. En próximos posts les mostraré los retratos que realicé a algunos de los modelos que participaron.

Solo me queda agradecer a Abel por mantener vivo el espíritu del Safari durante tantos años. Estoy seguro de que asistiré a todos los que pueda.
