Greetings, Hivers.

Some years ago, I traveled with a friend to the province of Pinar del Rio. The objective was to take a series of photographs of the Viñales Valley for an assignment: to set the scene with images in a lounge of a well-known hotel in Havana. My friend Esteban was an exceptional photographer, deeply focused on his work and with a great spirit.

Sadly, he lost his life while crossing a swollen river, doing precisely what he loved most: photographing the landscapes of his native province.

Going through my archives, I found this series we did together, and I wanted to share it with you today. I gave it a black and white makeover to present it to the community. Although the colors of the valley are intense and vibrant by nature, the black and white gives these images a special aura, melancholic and powerful, that captivated me deeply.

This is a small tribute to a great photographer and, above all, a great friend. I share with you the photos I took with him with great affection.

Hace algunos años, viajé con un amigo a la provincia de Pinar del Río. El objetivo era realizar una serie de fotografías del valle de Viñales para un encargo: ambientar con imágenes un salón de un conocido hotel de La Habana. Mi amigo Esteban era un fotógrafo excepcional, profundamente enfocado en su trabajo y con un gran espíritu.

Lamentablemente, perdió la vida mientras cruzaba un río crecido, haciendo justamente lo que más amaba: fotografiar los paisajes de su provincia natal.

Revisando mis archivos, encontré esta serie que hicimos juntos, y quise compartirla hoy con ustedes. Le di un virado a blanco y negro para presentarla a la comunidad. A pesar de que los colores del valle son intensos y vibrantes por naturaleza, el blanco y negro le confiere a estas imágenes un aura especial, melancólica y poderosa, que me cautivó profundamente.

Este es un pequeño homenaje a un gran fotógrafo y, sobre todo, a un gran amigo. Les comparto las fotos que tomé junto a él con mucho cariño.
