It is interesting how people deal with the passage of time. Relentless as it is, some refuse to accept it and believe that at 60 they can do the same things they did at 20. Others spend their days trapped in nostalgia or sadness. And some have simply been hit so hard by life that all they can do is keep moving forward however they can.
In Cuba, this is a very present reality today. Most young people have emigrated, and it is the elderly who have been left behind. Many of them face a difficult reality marked by loneliness, scarcity, and the weight of the years.
If I could choose how to reach that stage of life, I would like it to be like the gentleman in the second to last photo. Sitting in an armchair, with his little dog resting on him and his grandchildren running around nearby. There is an immense tenderness in that scene. A feeling of peace, companionship, and home that is worth more than many other things.

Es interesante cómo las personas afrontan el paso del tiempo. Implacable como es, algunos se niegan a aceptarlo y creen que con 60 años pueden hacer lo mismo que con 20. Otros viven atrapados en la nostalgia o la tristeza. Y otros, sencillamente, han recibido tantos golpes de la vida que no les queda más remedio que seguir adelante como pueden.
En Cuba, hoy ese es un tema muy presente. La mayoría de los jóvenes ha emigrado y son los mayores quienes se han quedado atrás. Muchos enfrentan una realidad difícil, marcada por la soledad, las carencias y el peso de los años.
Si pudiera escoger cómo llegar a esa etapa de la vida, me gustaría hacerlo como el señor de la penúltima foto. Sentado en un sillón, con su perrito encima y los nietos corriendo a su alrededor. Hay una ternura inmensa en esa escena. Una sensación de paz, compañía y hogar que vale más que muchas otras cosas.
