Greetings, dear Hivers.

A few days ago, I made a photo series that started in Old Havana and ended in Vedado. With several kilometers separating both places, the experience turned out to be quite disturbing—and here’s why.

It all began normally: photos of fishermen, some people resting, others working. Everything was calm until I got a phone call and had to move to Vedado to wait for a delivery. While waiting, I kept taking photos, without imagining what I was about to find.

In the garden of a house, I came across something rather unsettling: a doll tied over an unreadable sign, in a garden with no plants, and a single plastic flower stuck in the ground. 🤨😶🤔

I couldn’t make sense of it. There were no traces of traditional Cuban folklore or anything that could give me a clue about its meaning. My theory is that they planted something there, and that strange doll was meant to work as a scarecrow—but honestly, I’m not so sure.

To make things worse, the street was completely deserted. Not a single soul around, only a black cat that, of course, made the whole scene even more mysterious. Hahaha.
Anyway, I captured everything and here I share it with you. If anyone has an idea of what that could mean, please let me know.

By the way, I had to go back to Old Havana. 🥵🥵

Hace unos días hice una serie de fotos que comencé en La Habana Vieja y terminé en El Vedado. Entre un lugar y otro hay varios kilómetros de diferencia, y la experiencia fue un tanto perturbadora, ahora les explico por qué.

El inicio fue normal: fotos de pescadores, algunas personas descansando y otras trabajando. Todo iba tranquilo hasta que recibí una llamada y tuve que desplazarme al Vedado para esperar una encomienda. Allí seguí haciendo fotos, sin imaginar lo que iba a encontrar.

En el jardín de una casa apareció algo bastante inquietante: un muñeco amarrado sobre un cartel ilegible, en un jardín sin plantas, con una flor plástica sembrada. 🤨😶🤔

No entendí nada. No identifiqué rastros del folclore tradicional cubano ni señales que me dieran una pista de su significado. Mi teoría es que habían sembrado algo y ese extraño muñeco hacía las veces de espantapájaros, pero la verdad no estoy muy seguro.

Para colmo, ese día la calle estaba desierta, ni un alma. Solo un gato negro que, por supuesto, hizo crecer aún más la incertidumbre. Jajajajaja.
Bueno, nada, que lo dejé todo registrado y aquí se los muestro. Si alguien tiene idea de qué significa eso, por favor que lo explique.

Por cierto, tuve que regresar a La Habana Vieja. 🥵🥵
